I'm looking to replace my cranky ol' business Dell with a laptop more suited to gaming...

My budget's restricted, but I did manage to find this Toshiba for about $1100 new. I know the ATI 2600 HD is considered a reasonable GPU, but this one apparently comes with an ATI "Radio" HD 2600...I'm wondering what the heck that is...is it as good/worse than the ATI HD 2600?

I'm also consider this HP, which is loaded with an 8600M GS. Again, another fair GPU, certainly better than none at all.

Could anybody please advise on the 'radio" issue, and, if possible, recommend one or the other laptop??? Thanks guys :)

After some more research, I think you guys are right.

Are there any performance differences between the ATI Mobility series and the regular ATI GPUs? Because I think that Toshiba laptop obviously has the Mobility Radeon 2600HD in it...

Mobility means for laptops (for ATI)

All ATI cards in laptops are ATI Mobility....something. So say ATI 9600 is the desktop, if its in laptops it will be ATI Mobility 9600.

Nvidia has the same thing, before laptop graphic cards were denoted by a Go , like go 7900, but now they have changed it to M, so 8600M GT

It most definitely has a mobility version if it was the desktop version it would literately be a box for the bottom half of the notebook, it would look like a desktop case with a screen attached to it.

Definately just a typo, yeah.

From what I herd of the HD2600, it seems to be faster than the 8600GS, in mobile cases atleast. Abiet, it still suffers from AA, but eh, meh.

I seem to recall a good HD2600m DDR3, placing around the same as a 8600gt 256mb DDR2... was it? One of the odd extreamly lower end of the 8600gt... Which would put it a nice middle-man between the 8600gt and gs, abiet its the compeditors product.

Have you considered say, this? http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np2090-custom-laptop-built-compal-ifl90-p-1876.html
or http://www.xoticpc.com/force-3297-built-compal-ifl90-p-1983.html
Same system, just slightly price-different config. And quite resonably priced, with a 8600gt in it, and good warentee. And right in your price/spec range.
