Hi, folks!
I really want to play games in my notebook (specs seen in my signature). I tried installing witcher and the max resolution sucked. I was able to play it though after scaling down the resolution and disabling some graphic options but the screen was very small (800x600). I couldn't read the texts anymore in the menu. It wasn't worth sacrificing my time to play the game.
I heard that dragon age: origins could work well in 310m with low settings, what do you think? NBA 2k11 can also work, right? What about warhammer space marine? Can you suggest playable games in 310m? Like good, well-received, top pc games I can play in 310m? I don't mind even if it's 5-7 years old already as long as I can decently play it with no lags, slow fps, and the likes.
Thanks in advance!

Anything you want as long as you play with lower resolution and settings.
Starcraft 2 seems to do fine on low settings with your GPU. MW2/Black Ops should play fine as well. -
Not many. Your'e really going to play on very low settings. Your'e better off selling this and getting something else.

Shoot, really? Haha I just bought this last October 2010. I might be considering your suggestion in the next two to three years. Nevertheless, my notebook is still in pristine condition. The graphics card is just disappointing in play games

Thanks, hulawafu77. I tried playing witcher 2 under really low settings but really didn't turn out 'okay'. I know that game is a bit demanding that's why. Maybe I'm expecting too much from this entry-level graphics card... I was think of trying dragon age: origins or warhammer space marine but I am not sure if I will experience the same thing with Witcher 2. I read that warhammer space marine and dragon age are relatively demanding compared to witcher 2. What do you think? -
You can play most games released from like two years ago and earlier, just don't expect much from newer titles. Witcher 2 is just one that you need decent hardware to run it. Learn to sacrifice resolution and detail in general otherwise you will be disappointed.

Alright, I accept the odds. But can you give me names of the games I can play last one to two years? Like the good ones so I can start buying them? Thanks a lot!

What kinds of games you like?

It`s a pity the "Can You Run It? - System Requirements Lab" website cannot give you a list of games that will run ok on you gpu, instead of just the game you select.

Why not play old games? KOTOR is a fantastic game, its old, but I mean it doesn't mean its not a great game.
You can definitely play Starcraft 2 on Low- Medium settings at default resolution (as long as you aren't rocking like a 1080p or 1440p monitor or something). My friend does with just an i5 sandybridge + HD 3000. He does it all medium, but I think SC2 is CPU dependent so I think the upgraded CPU helps. -
the witcher 1
Oblivion
KOTOR 1-2
Assassins creed 1 (not sure about 2)
Dragon Age origins and awakening
Half-Life 1-2
Mass effect 1
I played all of these on the system in my sig... since your GPU is about 3x as powerful id imagine your experience would be better. -

Can nba 2k11 2k12, or nba live 2011 2012 run on geforce 310m? -

-thanks! I tried dragon age origins. It worked just fine but every 10 mins, I experience some 7 second lag...

I'm sorry about my post then... I'm just a bit desperate to play something nice on my notebook... -

will nba 2k12 run smoothly on geforce310m? thanks!
-
Are you talking about the the original Witcher or Witcher 2? The first should run fine at low to medium settings, the second will choke any machine, I have to run it on mostly low settings at 1366x768 resolution and I have a fairly good video card.
The 310m just isn't very good for gaming. -

I was referring to witcher 1...
-
That sounds like your GPU or CPU is throttling, most likely because some component is overheating. I would check your CPU/GPU temp and then give your computer a thorough clean.
-
Are you running any antivirus or any background programs (some kind of streaming server software)? How long have you had the computer without cleaning the fans?
-

I haven't cleaned my fan (internal fan). My notebook is just exactly a year old. However, I have a cooling fan (thermaltake), and also an external desktop fan to cool down my notebook. So I guess overheating is not a problem... -

I just bought nba2k12 and it worked great at my max resolution while everything (i.e. anti-aliasing, v-sync, player detail, crowd detail, etc.) low/disabled. This is fine already since me and my younger brother can decently play the game. Thanks again everyone!
-
Space Rangers 2 is a great game, worth checking out.
-
Yes NBA 2K11 and 2K12 run well on anything with a decent CPU, just read this http://forum.notebookreview.com/6696714-post1.html I would say your CPU is 10% slower and your GPU about 65% so just turn off "wavy shorts" (play with everything on medium)

I was able to just low/medium configuration of nba2k12 and it seems working fine. But when I checked my nvidia control panel, nba2k12 is not in the list of supported games, just nba2k11. So I manually configured the settings. Problem is, the option "maximum pre-rendered frames" (feature that only supports games using directx) is set to "3" as its default setting. I am confused whether to increase or decrease it to improve the performance of the game. From what I've read, a higher maximum pre-rendered frames setting smoothens the gameplay and vice-versa. Caution is that if I experience some mouse delay, keyboard/gamepad lags, I should decrease it. "3" being its default setting, I reduced it "1" instead. You think this is good and my gaming experience will relatively increase?
-
Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames has nothing to do with graphics performance, and will not have any effect on your framerates.

Can play ALL mmos with 310M. MMOs are all about player population, the #s. The developers of MMOs make sure any dx9 card can play their game.
All the recent RPG games are console ports. Your 310M is still more powerful than what is in a console. So at lower res on PC versions, with some lowered settings, turn off post processing, you should be fine. -
No, it really isn't. The 310M can not run console ports @ 720p as well as the consoles, even on medium settings.
-
I played Dungeon Siege 3 fine on a gt240m, and I think I used medium-high settings.
-
I played dragon age 2 and mass effect 2 on pretty good settings on my thinkpad t400. I wasn't using my vidock to play these games. I was playing them on the HD3470 card.

I found out that my gpu driver is outdated, malfunctioning, or should I say, not running at all. Running a hybrid-type of vga, my notebook has only been using its integrated intel graphics and not the 310m for one year. After I checked the ASUS website and upgraded the firmware, everything turned out well! I could play nba2k12 smoothly in medium settings
Anyway, I went to nvidia website to download the latest firmware update for my gpu since the one I had in the ASUS website is just version 268. Verde 280.26. It says there that notebooks with a hybrid technology aren't supported. People who had the same gpu as mine (310m) tried doing upgrading and all of them failed. I was wondering if I could download elsewhere a 280.26 that will work on a hybrid tech like mine (asus k42jc), or should I just wait for the asus website to upload a working firmware upgrade compatible to my notebook? -
The GT 240M is far superior. For starters, it has 48 shaders, to the 310M's 16, and is 128-bit while the 310M is only 64-bit.
The 240M would equal out to over 2x as fast. -
Oh ok, I was thinking for some reason that they were in or around the same class. Sorry!
-
I own a mac mini with 320m since I suppose it's not that much of a difference than yours! I have experienced the gameplay of fallout 3 (bootcamp) on medium @720p and ran smoothly with a bit of lag ( a bit below 20fps) in some places!
-
Hello, I jaz bought NBA2k12 and have it in my laptop asus c0rei5 with a 310m video card and notice that after 2nd quarter the game lags.hope you guys can help. thnx

Half life 2 would run with decent FPS on your 310M.
What pc games can I decently play in an nvidia geforce 310m?
