I'm going to buy a new video game from Comp USA ( cause I have a gift card)

and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Listed that I have already- BF 2/2142, CC3, COH, Halo 2, COD 2.

Game types that I don't want- Fantasy, Magic (World of Warcraft stuff), Racing games.

(Even though Oblivion runs in that section, if you can convince me why should I get it, go for it please)

Genres i'm interested- Simulators(must be 1 year old), First person shooters( no un real tournaments), tactical shooters( anything but GRAW 1 & 2), regular FPS, RTS, and uhh, anything else I didn't mention.

    Thanks!

Btw, how is Rainbow 6 Vegas?

You can only get that from EA's site though, so he can't use his CompUSA giftcard.

    It is entirely fantasy though.

Oblivion is great when you put all the mods in.

rainbow six vegas seemed great when i tested it out on the macbook pro. i just wasn't happy with the performance so i trashed it. (obvious driver issues with the 8600m gt)

i might consider reinstalling it in a few months if the game gets some updates (or the video card)

Hmm, am I allowed to use Comp USA giftcards online? or do I have to go through the store?

Well, it seems like Rainbow 6 vegas is pretty popular at the moment, but I don't know, it's still too early to decide. Medieval 2 Total war is pretty cool as well

I need an answer please by July 4 or 5. (Does Comp USA close on July 4th?)

Penumbra Overture Ep1 is a great thriller/horror game. It doesn't require high-end graphics to run smoothly, yet the game still looks great. I tried playing it personally but within 20 minutes i was scared as hell and had to stop -.- Dunno if you like that kind of thing. Also, dunno if CompUSA has it but it's pretty new.

if you have a notebook with an 8600m gt and a desktop with 8800gtx's in sli...

you obviously care a lot about gaming. you should probably go ahead and get several of these games. you put the money into the hardware. just buy like 4 or 5 games to go with it.

oh wow you haven't played hl2. you should probably go ahead and do that. hl2 is a really important game to play through...

css is basically just a remastered version of the original. its got a huge player base, but it might be a little intimidating hopping in if you haven't played counter strike before.

both pivotal games, highly recommend the pair.

    1. hl2
    2. css
    3. r6v
    4. fsx

that is the order in which you should consider getting these games.

2.) How different is CSS from my condition zero

Condition Zero is garbage compared to Source. I play source every day and never get bored of it. HL2 is just a great game in general. It has a great storyline along with great graphics and gameplay.

hl2 is pivotal. that game is just well thought out. you will be kept on your toes the entire time. its hard to explain how awesome it is... its definitely worth your dollar. it has to be the deep incorporation of the havok physics engine that really puts you in the game. but its so much more than that. you just have to see.

if you have played condition zero then there isn't much of a reason to play css. its all the same game. the source engine just brings graphical enhancements to counter strike. also that weird shield thing in condition zero doesn't exist. minor differences here and there i guess...

ghost recon, listen. Out of any games listed in this thread counter-strike: source has the highest replay value. Once you get skilled in this game you will be better at other fps. Half Life 2 was basically a benchmark game for all FPS's (some say Far Cry too). The graphics and gameplay are superb. The only issue is that games too short. You can still play it online, but the other sweet part of buying Half Life 2 is that you can get counter-strike: source with it. It's highly addictive and there are tons of mods (i love the gun game mod), which are easy to play because you download them when you're joining a server. I don't know how they are bundled now adays but it appears that you have to choose from the various packs they offer.

Anyways, I'm very surprised you haven't heard of anything about HL2, lol..

counter-strike zero was the worse than 1.6. Source has beautiful graphics and using the AWP is so much easier and faster.

ghost_recon: like I said HL2 was a benchmark for FPS. It has intense gameplay and beautiful graphics along with the havok psychics (masterchef mentioned). The expansion pack (half life 2: episode 1) is even more fun and better than the original. If you want more information go to a site like www.ign.com or www.gamespot.com and check out their reviews.

HL2 has 2 very big mods comming out.

A co-op mode that lets you play with other players, and I forget the other :p I wanst as intersted.

But yes co-op sounds totally awsome.

Computer games... I just got halo2 and shadowrun.. I hate shadowrun its performance sucks on my computer but if you like counter strike you may love it... think counterstrike but you can use magic and stuff.

Halo 2 im much enjoying the 1 player mode, and I hear multiplayer is like 10x better.

Games to look forward too? Its a long ways off but atleast confirmed. Starcraft 2.

Wow, HL2 was an amazing breakthrough in both graphics and game play. I honestly cant believe you don't own that game. If you consider yourself any sort of gamer you need HL2 in your arsenal. And have you not played the original HL? They are both amazing games. But then again, if you dont want to buy HL2 because someone has to tell you how special it is...then maybe you should get COD or something; my little brother plays that.

At this point no game can fully utilize dual 8800GTXs, its overkill. Oh, and didnt you mention something about Supreme Commander? I heard that game is amazing, especially if you have the hardware to run it. Also, HL2 looks all shiny and pretty with gfx ramped all the way up. It has great lighting, that HDR is quite impressive.

Has anyone mentioned Hitman? I'm planning on buying the 'trilogy pack' or whatever at some point.

Decent graphics, you can sneak around or try and kill everyone in sight. Had a lot of fun with one of the older Hitmans like 2 years ago.

Don't sweat HL2. It is very nice, some say revolutionary, but in the end it is just the evolutionary end-point for linear FPS.

Think about how RTS fans feel about Starcraft, or metal heads feel about Slayers "Reign in Blood". If you like this genre, then you probably already own this title. I just recently played through HL2 for the first time, completing it about 3 months ago. It was really nice, but it was so heavily scripted and "on rails" that I felt more like I was watching a movie than playing a game. IMHO Valve developers need to decide if they are working for a game company or Pixar. This "Hollywood wannabe" vibe is even more evident in Episode 1 with the forced sexual tension and constant interaction with Alyx. Just my 2cents on HL2.

Nobody has mentioned STALKER, so I'll put my support behind it. Not perfect, but it does bring some new things to the FPS genre, and provides good replayability in the single-player game.

Depends on the version you buy. I got my copy of HL2 as a bargain title ($19.95 at Fred Myers), and it did not include CSS. All it came with was HL2 and HL2 :Deathmatch. If you're buying HL2 and are expecting CSS - check the box!
