If I bought CSS, it'll come with HL2 deathmatch, not the full game version of HL 2.

As I remember it, you buy HL2 and get both HL2DM and CSS. Because thats exactly what I have, and I paid one price for all 3 games.

Again - it depends on which version you buy. This version is the one that I bought, and does not come with CSS, only HL2 Deathmatch. The Game of the Year edition does come with CSS, for an extra $15. Also, if you bought HL2 before they completed development of HL2 Deathmatch, CSS was packaged as the mutiplayer component of the game.

go ahead and get hl2 also. its the best 20 bucks you will probably ever spend on a video game.

and the hl2 single player alone is way sweeter than rvs vegas

i highly suggest you pick up a few essentials.

the source premier pack includes half-life 2, which is the best single player fps you can possibly pick up. period. in addition, it comes with cs: source and dod: source, which are both amazing shooters i play online whenever i get a chance. not to mention the inclusion of half-life 2: deathmatch, half-life, and half-life: deathmatch. it's only $60 and it's worth every penny. you can also download insurgency: modern infantry combat for free from fileplanet, which is an excellent hl2 mod.

another great online fps you should check out is battlefield 2. for $30 you can get both bf2 and the expansion pack. although the game doesn't control and play as smoothly as games on the source engine do, it has some intense vehicular combat and the class system is downright perfect. unfortunately, it is pretty damn glitchy and much depends on your team.

another essential in my book is oblivion, which is undoubtedly one of the best gaming experiences you'll ever have on any system. i have never played a game so epic, so open, and so well-designed. during my first run-through, i spent hours messing around in the world before i even started the first main story quest. not to mention it really does show off your pc if it's a good one.

f.e.a.r. is another great fps with some amazing graphics and tight gameplay. its online component isn't that great, but the single-player campaign is pretty damn scary and intense (reminds me a lot of a darker max payne) albeit a litle short.

other games to check out are bf1942/bf2142 (though i suggest bf2 over it), call of duty 1/2, rainbow six: vegas, ghost recon: advanced warfighter, world of warcraft (if you enjoy mmorpgs, which i no longer do), far cry, and company of heroes if you enjoy rts's. i also suggest the splinter cell and hitman series.

the majority of these can be downloaded via a torrent, but i understand if others opt not to illegally download copies of games. if that's the case, i suggest you grab the source pack first because that opens up a lot of mods.

aok ..I already have BF 2142, BF 2, Call of Duty 2, GRAW( But I hate it on PC), I also hate WoW, I have far cry, and I have CoH.

BF 1942 does not deserve to get any awards at all in my opinion... IT's not even realistic. I can go under a tank. Under its belly, shoot a rocket launcher, blow it up, and I don't die. It's so unrealistic.

the battlefield games strive for a balance of fun/realism. they definitely aren't meant to be super realistic in every way.

    americasarmy.com

    there is your realism.

dont waste your money on rainbow six vegas when you should be buying half life 2. seriously that should be on the very top of your list, regardless of budget or other game choices.

Well, I played a demo of Vegas... It was ok. So i'm probably going with an RTS game or CSS. Besides, CSS comes with Half Life 2 deathmatch, and I have Half Life 2 lost coast (Thanks to the ATI thing).

So #1= Supreme Commander or CSS.

Oh, by the way, can we use giftcards when purchasing items online? Like, I have my $50 CompUSA giftcard...Can I use it on their website to purchase? Or do I have to go directly to the retailer store?

ok well, i can see you aren't too keen on getting half life 2.

lost coast is just a tech demo, and death match is pretty poorly implemented (its good on LAN) - and neither of those are really good descriptions of half life 2.

go buy whatever, but play half life 2 eventually. maybe when the orange box comes out.

    OK, my recommendations:

Stay with Ubisoft and get the Splinter Cell games. They're awesome, have great replay value, and not ONLY are they awesome, but they're FUN, too! ;)

Seriously, look into getting Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the original Splinter Cell, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, if your specs can support it.

You can't go wrong with Counter-Strike: Source. It's realtively cheap, and damn good.

Sorry,I'm not interested in the Splinter Cell series.

and I'm probably going to get the Half Life 2 Platinum Edition which has everything. HL 2, full CSS, and HL 2 expansion.

Or, I'm getting Flight Simulator X.

i agree. half-life 2 should be mandatory for those who play ANY kind of video game. it should be played for its ability to immerse the gamer in a world better than anything before or after it.
