Yeah, what should I look for? What are some good brands, and some brands I should avoid?

    Thanks

LCD monitors are an important factor in gaming, just like they are with photo editing.

Check for whether it's an TN panel or another type of monitor. It's generally recommended that you NEVER get a TN panel unless you are buying cheap. Good types of LCD's are TFT, and IPS.

Resolution is an important factor. Eg: The higher resolution it is the better it will look, the more desktop space you will have, and the picture will look sharper.

Obviously size is an important factor, that really comes down to how much you are willing to pay, personal preference, and the use.

Good brands are LG, Apple, I don't know any others.

Obviously if you are to be using it for gaming, you would want a widescreen. If you want it for CAD though, you would need a 5:4 monitor.

Actually, gamers tend to prefer TN panels because of their extremely low response times compared to PVA and IPS panels, despite the poorer colors and viewing angles. By the way, TFT isn't a separate type of its own.

And as for resolution...gamers want something that their hardware will be able to keep up with at native resolution. So, while 2560x1600 may look absolutely beautiful, most average gaming computers will struggle to render modern games at such a resolution, so it's not great for gaming. I would say 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 are the best resolutions for gaming machines with reasonably powerful hardware.

LCD's generally aren't the thing in computer hardware I'm most knowledgeable about, sorry.

I forgot to add in that resolution really depends on hardware.
