As I tried downloading the 980 Driver under the Mobile 980M Branch, the file name still said Notebook in it so how is it that the M Notebook driver is meant to be installed on a desktop GPU? Or is it the same driver just with the right INF to support the Desktop 980 GTX that is in laptops?

I don't really think it matters anymore. Both laptop and desktop drivers have installed without modification on my 980Ms for awhile now, I just use the mobile drivers in case there is something different between the two.

Use the mobile ones, it's a desktop class mobile device.
