Well, it'll need Vista obviously. But i'm wondering what other resources i'll need in a laptop when i get it when it comes out.
Do you guys thing the Go 7600 would be enough? Or should i just go ahead and look for one with a 7700?
Obviously i would get 2 gigs of ram and a core 2 duo at 2.0 ghz. So i'm wondering if that'll work. I'll probably wait for Centrino Pro (santa rosa) to come out so i can get a better FSB, etc.
But what do you guys think would be a good machine for Halo 2 when it comes out?
-
Oh, come on, it's Halo 2 we are talking about, it was originally for the XBox.
Any modern video graphic cards will do the job fine.
Here, GameSpot did some XBox and Vista screenshot comparisons.

Yeah, i guess i needed that website. I was thinking that they would render it DX10, but i guess a DX9 compatible card would do.
The reason i asked was, my computer lags a bit playing Halo 1 whereas i get way better performance on my xbox, and the specs on my computer are waaaay higher compared to the xbox. So i was just wondering if that would happen when they release Halo 2 -
Well, all we can do is wait and see.
However, as GameSpot mentioned it, there are 3 simple video settings in Halo 2 PC:
"High, Medium and Low". You can always set the graphics to low to help the lag. -
ah, well that's good. i would still like to customise all the effects/options
-
Hopefully someone will get together a patch so it won't be vista only
-
Oh trust me, there will. Ha ha.... (call'n all you crackers/hackers!)
Anyway, the reason why halo 2 pc would need to run on Vista, is because of the "new instant play" feature, which has nothing to do with DirectX or any other Vista enhanced "features".
The so called "instant play" (not sure that's the name for it) is like playing games on a console, you simply pop in the halo 2 dvd into your DVD-ROM, and play instantly without installing it first. However, the game is still being installed onto the hard drive while you are playing.
That's all the information that I've gathered so far, there are probably some other reasons why Halo 2 will only run on Vista, probably just some lame, minor excuses.
Anyway, I've already got Vista, so I'm good to go. ha ha... -
What would happen if you try to install it on XP? Would it say incompatible or something?
I've heard that it doesn't require much computing power (according to gamespot). They had everything turned up high including anti-aliasing and filtering and there was no lag. So it would be interesting. LOL finally I have somebody to show off in front of my friends cuz it only runs on Vista. HAHAHHA. -
There are box requirements out now for Halo 2. It needs a 2Ghz Processor, 1Gb of Ram and I think it said either Ati X700-ish class, or Nvidia 6100! Yes, I know there's a huge difference between X700 and 6100, but that is what it said....
But if Halo original is lagging on your machine, then so will Halo 2, without a doubt. A machine that's technically more powerful then an Xbox does not mean it will drive games better. What video card do you have? -
Ive Been told
Min Req: 1.7ghz Proc,512mb Ram,64mb Video,Vista
Recoomended: 2.4ghz Proc 1gb Ram and 128mb dedicated video -
Awesome laptops Notebook Evangelist
so no laptop will be able to handle the cpu recommending?
-
Simply buy and Xbox360 and there'll be no worries!
Just like Vista, the minimum requirement will get Halo 2 running nowhere to an enjoyable playing experience. -
-
Instead of, you know, guessing.
Here's the official Halo 2 Vista Minimum System Requirement:
OS: Windows Vista™
Processor: 2 Ghz Pentium 4 class processor (or x64)
RAM: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 7 GB
Video Card: DX9 graphics card: WDDM driver, PS 2.0/32BPP, At least nVidia 6000 or ATI x700 or above

So yeah, FX 5500, and it lags a bit with Halo 1 when i'm indoors, but when i'm on an outdoors map it plays wonderfully, full reflections, full resolution, everything on; just indoors it strangely gets laggy.
But i plan on getting a santa rosa platform laptop with at least a Go 7600, so that should play halo 2 (with 2 gigs of ram and a core 2 duo 2.0ghz) -
dang, that mess is going to take up 7 gigs! bring it on
-
if you look at the bottom of the page it looks like a demo should be coming out soon...will be interesting to see how it is...this will be the only reason why i will be gaming on vista...for now im happy dual booting -

This is a video of the video comparison graphics from the Xbox, PC, and 360. Pretty interesting video so check it out. You can find the high res version at gamespot.com. -
Microsoft will create a Direct X 9 and backwards set of shaders that aren't Dx 10. So you should be able to runs Halo 2 on XP when it comes out. I'd be very, very suprised if it will only run on Vista.
Am i missing something? What does vista have that XP dosen't have?
-
wow, that's even more demanding than battlefield 2142, i guess it's because it's running on vista -
thats actually a pretty demanding publisher minimum requirement
-
Though I've never thought the Halo series is anything special, it is disappointing from the consumer's perspective that this is Vista only. They can't even try and spin it and say its due to DX10 (which is a lie anyway). No, it is purely about money and shifting Vista. They're not even bothering hiding that fact are they?
*Thumbs down* -
my laptop has a graphics card of an ATI Mobility Radeon X1350
do you guys think my laptop be able to run Halo 2 or not i just want to make sure before i get it. everything else on my laptop will run it i just wanted to make sure that i could with my graphics card. so if you would please help me out i would appreciate it very much -
I'd guess that it will physically run, but unless they have optimized the game quite a bit, you'll need to run it on low settings.
EDIT: Oh and...
"OH DEAR GOD IT'S ALIVE!!"
*runs from reanimated thread* -
can't believe I posted here 8 months ago....
oh how time flies...
anyways, Halo 2 is a lousy port, poorly optimized for PC. Remember HavoK ran Halo 2 on XP with 1GB RAM and Go 7400, and it was horrible...

its not that bad.
What will Halo 2 need?
