FarCry is the best I've ever seen in terms of loading. It loads all of it's HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE levels at once at the beginning of the level. It doesn't take too terribly long either and if you die, respawning is almost immediate. Problem is, you WILL be dieing a lot as the game can be frustratingly difficult. At least for me it is...playing it on Challenging the first time through...I wish I could change that.

Best advice is to hit the arcade and see what type of games you enjoy, most games made specific for PC platform, such as Warcraft3, Sims, World of Warcarft are fun but have a steep learning curve for first time gamers. I would start off what the arcade, see what types of games works for you.

Counter Strike would be a great game to start. Makes other games like BF2 feel a lot slower pace

I would consider looking at the Command and Conquer: First Decade games. It is forty bucks and comes with tons of Command and Conquer games, which I think are very fun and have a range of difficulties for rookies and pros alike. They are also very good pick up and play games which I like a lot too. You should consider checking those out!

Yeah, I've been a long time gamer like you Chaz. I remember having windows 3.1 on myvery old compaq notebook. Use to run games off DOS. The best game I ever played was good old Doom 1

If you don't want to get too serious with gaming, go for web based mini games off sites like Miniclip: http://www.miniclip.com

you should try simulation games such as Flight simulations.
