Title says it all.. I haven't been gaming since my university days 5-6 years ago, and especially now with a wife and 2 kids, almost no time for gaming :)

But I have got a Go7600 in my lappy, and seems such a waste if I don't play some games, so just wondering what ppl would recommend to play? (I don't really wanna play online, so just offline games pls)

I'm looking for RPG's ala FF7, XenoGears, ChronoTrigger/Cross, Suikoden... ones with very very interesting storylines (is XenoSaga avail on PC btw?)

Or Adventure games in the lines of PoliceQuest (very very old I know.. but I liked those games), Hero's Quest (So you want to be a hero), and the Monkey Island series.. or even First Person adv like DeusEx ....

As I said, I've been out of the gaming scene for quite awhile, so I'm rather lost as to what I should be looking at right now.. hope someone can suggest a good game to play and not waste my graphics card power :)

Knights of the Old Republic, without a doubt. Awesome storyline and it simply very enjoyable.
It is not the newest game (2003), but still has good-looking graphics and the sounds are great.

Dang, that brings back some old memories :D I'll second Kotor, great game indeed. Don't imagine it'll tax the Go 7600 too much (I could play it pretty well with my desktop FX 5200, heh...)

It hasn't been released yet, but it's on my wishlist... Bioshock. Like Dues Ex and System Shock it's a combo FPS/RPG/Adventure title with strong horror overtones. The art deco styled environs are looking awesome.

Neverwinter Nights is also there. It's offline but you can also play it online. Content is always added via modules and no fee for online playing.

Check out Neverwinter Nights. The Platinum Edition contains the original campaign, both major add-ons (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark), plus a couple of the premium modules. In addition, there are loads of excelent free modules available for download. Finally, they just added Infinate Doungeons -- think NWN meets Angband. Very cool, if more than a bit munchkin.

Nothing that will strain your new machine, but lots of fun, and you'll be able to run with everything turned up to eleven!

you and i seem to have similar tastes in gaming. i think i've played almost every lucas arts adventure game ever out :x. diablo 2 also didn't really do it for me. i haven't played games in a long time, but i have played kotor 1 and 2 and both are enjoyable. i played morrowind (elderscrolls 3) but the story line was so slow and caused my crappy ol' laptop to shut down from overheating. i haven't gotten a chance to play it, but a game called psychonauts looks interesting. it was made by tim schafer who worked on a lot of the older lucas arts titles.

There's no official release date for Bioshock as yet, but while demoing the game at E3, they were saying early 2007. Guess you won't be playing it this weekend...

Actually, that's the Diamond Edition you're referring to. The Platinum doesn't have the Kingmaker Premium modules to what I know. You can find the Platinum edition on amazon.com for $15 and the Diamond edition for $20. There are two premium modules not included for download on bioware.com, they cost less than $10 each but there are always free modules for download. They have a bulletin there to point you to the better ones.

Still haven't seen anything in the mold of Anime style RPG's like FF7/XenoGears though.. any suggestions for those?

Couple of older games, but still something you must play. :)

RPG's: Fallout, Fallout 2. (Every gamer should play those)

Adventure games: Grim Fandango (If you liked Monkey Island, you have to play this)

Neverwinter nights!! Awsome! I went the monk and took that big ugly barbarian thing as my henchman.....ah so much fun.

I did find it got repetitive after a while, run, pick lock, fight, run, pick lock, fight, fight some more, pick up treasure when highlighted, run, sell, go back.....

    Whats everyones favourite class?

Anyway I would definitely support the Kotor games that have been suggested. I have never played them myself but my brother did (A lot as in a lot) and I would just watch for hours on end (Man what a waist of time  ) but they were pretty involving even just watching them played. And the melee combat system is decent even for a modern game

Old school but brilliant: Monkey Island 1&2 (The Secret of Monkey Island & Monkey Island: Le Chucks Revenge) and The Curse of Monkey Island (not the fourth one). They're among the funniest games i've played. And don't forget the original Leisure Suit Larry games. You can also try out the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

    fallout 3 is coming.
    That should be very exciting.

kotor has a very dramatic story possibly better than the star wars movies.
The game itself is pretty dumbed down.

kotor 2 is not nearly as good.

    Baldurs Gate I, II
    Icewind Dale I, II
    Planescape: Torment
    Fallout
    Fallout II
    Arcanum
Oblivion & Morrowind ( & Daggerfall if you eat up these games)

Best games money can buy (and a lot are reasonably old, so reasonably priced, now - look for collector's editions of the Black Isle games)

Well for old school check out gothic and gothic 2.

    Planescape torment is awesome.

But I just want to say fallout 3 is the only awesome game I even know about upcoming.

Although perhaps dragon age will be good.

Yah I have Planescape Torment, I think it's the best implementation of the Infinite engine ever and perhaps a forerunner to Fallout 3. I just hope they update the engine.

FYI, Torment's staff consisted of a mixture of Fallout 2 developers/writers and Baldur's Gate staff.

    ***SPOILER***
Hopefully the ending to Fallout 3 will be better, as I wasn't too thrilled with Torment's "cop-out" ending.
    ***END SPOILER***

Had to be better than the "oh crap we're out of time better end the game here and not even finish the storyline or two of the sub-plots" ending of KOTOR 2.
Such a great game, such a bad ending. :(

Don't forget emulation, some old classics right there. Plenty of RPG's on the PSX, like Star Ocean, Vagrant Story, Lunar 1 and 2 (well...haven't actually played them, but heard good things). Don't forget the other final fantasies, they are all very good imo, though I've only played from 7 to the newest, but I heard the older ones, especially 6 and...3 I think it was, dunno, were especially good. 8 and 9 are awesome, like 7, and can be emulated nicely with a 7600GT.

Anyway, Lucasarts Adventure games are always good, The Dig, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Monkey Islands, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle and Blade Runner.

Then there are Sierra adventure games, Kings Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry (maybe not family material, depending on the family...).

There are loads of other old adventure games which really roll back the memories, Toonstruck, Circle of Blood/Broken Sword series, Simon the Sorceror series, Legend of Kyrandia series, Beneath a Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Koala Lumpur, Discworld series. Also heard good things about Gabriel Knight games.

You might want to check out a program called SCUMMVM for the older adventure games btw, especially the lucasarts ones, but it'll give you a list of compatible games somewhere in the readme or something.

Newer adventure games such as Dreamfall and Fahrenheit are great too. Similar games to those include Omikron and Dark Earth, which I also recommend highly.

KOTOR, like many have suggested, is definitely one of the best out there. Play both of them, it's a LOT of fun, and has got awesome storyline, soundtrack, gameplay...just a bit lacking on the graphics side, but compared to the other games I've mentioned, probably the best.

Would give you a run-down description of each game...but there are too many games, but I've honestly enjoyed pretty much every single game I've mentioned, barring the ones I haven't played of course.

oh ya well the game is totally unfinished.

Whole plot lines start and never finish. You enter into blank areas where something is supposed to happen and is gone.

There is aparently some sort of patch that finishes the unfinished parts.

Theres whole plot lines with the robot that just doesnt finish.

You know I really couldnt even remember what the story of kotor 2 is although i finished it. Nothing like the first game although not terrible just not special

Do you have a link to that patch stamar? I'd be interested.

I just finished Prince of Persia The Two Thrones (2005). Awesome game. But quite difficult really. 9/10 score on most gaming websites.
