id used to be at the top of the 3D game all the time. Last big title was really Doom 3 and that was years ago. I haven't heard of any new big title in the works by them. Too bad they didn't get the Duke Nuke'm Forver bid.
They used to push the 3D envelope, which was a boon for PC's.

Last i've read they are busy with two games. Rage and Doom 4.
-
They seem to be in league with Besthsda.

They as said are making Rage and Quake 4. And they are with Bethesda and the IDTech 5 engine will only be licensed to Bethesda games. But Elder Scrolls 5 won't be using the engine for whatever dumb reason Bethesda may came up with. And believe IDTech 6 engine is in development already. From what I've seen of gameplay etc, Rage with IDTech 5 engine should be the best engine in a long time. Everything is so fluid, the AI is good and well the action looks awesome.
Look up some gameplay vids of Rage. The fluidity and gameplay to me looks unrivaled, from the bits I've seen. -
Bought up by zenimax, who own bethesda, currently working on RAGE and doom 4 as well as ports for the iphone.
I think. -

Yup, what these guys said, they've been developing new tech for a new engine since doom 3. Prior to doom 3 I'd say they've been losing their engine supremecy to Unreal so they've been drifting behind for a bit.

i also remember that id software took years before they finish doom 3.
Correct me if im wrong. -
Well to be fair Call of Duty runs off an open source version of id tech 3 which only recently has started to look dated.
Whatever happened to id Software?
