Downloading ROMs to use on emulators=not -
same as using steroids is legal but its illegal to sell and buy em, it makes totally sense!
-
oh...its illegal?
ah....sorry then...i hope mods can close this topic -
Emulators are legal if...
-You are using the BIOS of a console/device you legally personally own.
-You are using the ISO's/discs of games you legally personally own.
It is illegal to...
-Pirate a BIOS, even if you legally own the system already.
-Pirate a game, even if you legally own a physical copy.
-Lie about either of the above, even though it's more convenient to pirate a BIOS/game and just say you got it off the system you already own than to actually go through the tedious process of getting the BIOS and ISO's from your system/games.
It is not illegal to...
-Download an emulator or plugins and utilities related to emulators, so long as they do not have a BIOS.
So, I am within the confines of the law when I say I downloaded PCSX2 and various plugins for it, dumped the BIOS off of my old PS2, and put my Final Fantasy X PS2 disc in my laptops drive to play it on the emulator. (which, by the way, is true) -
Sadly, there are no fully working PSP emulators for the PC, which I would really really like.
The ones that are out there are extremely buggy, beta, can only play a couple of games and probably not even that well, etc.
I haven't seen any progress on the PSP emulation scene since the Potemkin emulator was announced back in 2007. -
This might be slighty off-topic...I'm thinking about getting a PSP but I heard Sony's new 3000 series suffered from a serious LCD problem from numerous review sites and users from Official Playstation forum. Sony made a official statement after that bascially saying they are aware of this problem but they are not going to do anything about it.
So should I get a 2000 instead ? Is this a good time to get a PSP ?
Thanks in advance -

I think it would be better to get the 2000 series or if you can get to see the 3000 series in person, maybe you won't find it so bad. The 3000 uses a different LCD, the pixels are arranged differently so when playing games, people are reporting it suffers from interlacing and it looks quite serious. Its a hardware issue, so no firmware update can fix it.
Funny, because the improved LCD with its better color reproduction was the main selling point but now people are scared off because of the interlacing issue. The other benefits of it over the 2000 series are its built-in microphone and ability to output games on a TV with composite and component cables.
For the 2000 series, you could only output games with component, the rest with composite. -
Because discussion on emulators usually lead to talk about software piracy(which NBR prefers not to be associated with), this thread is now closed.
