I want to get one of those games but not both...
I am most concerned with the single player campaign since I will be playing it on a looong airplane ride.
Which is most fun in your opinion?
A question I would have about both games is can I choose what weapons I am carrying? I am a huge fan of the shotgun ever since doom LOL so I like to have one handy at all times. I know both games have a shotgun but can I choose to carry it all the time?
Please comment on other things like gameplay, graphics, and story as well...I will be playing on a 8600m gt 512 so I know I can run either game.
Thanks for the input!

Crysis has NOTHING on COD4, NOTHING.
ALso, if you are running on an 8600, COD4 will probably look better than crysis because you can turn the graphics for COD4 way up while with crysis you will probably need to play at Medium (possibly lower in some settings). -
Thanks! Any other opinions?

COD4 is much better than Crysis gameplay wise. In COD4 you are given weapons in the beginning of the most missions. But you can always use any weapons you find on the way. I'm not a fun of a shotgun, so don't really remember how often it is available.

COD4
(but i find crysis more re-playable) -
CoD4, albeit very short, is an experience. Playing CoD4 is like playing through a movie. Not only does it look excellent, but the atmosphere is extremely engaging, making the overall gaming experience unique (no matter what your hardware is).
Crysis, provided you have the appropriate hardware (a 8800GTX or something minimum), will be more cinematic in terms of looks only. It's also longer than CoD4. Crysis is just another FPS, but with extremely good looks (on 2x8800GT in SLi or better, that is).
If you are looking for a single player game to kill as much time as possible on one single play through, get Crysis. For all other reasons, get CoD4. -
COD4 ,but Crysis is replayable like aan310 said

COD4 has one of the most unique memorable and fun single player campaigns I have EVER seen in my gaming-crazy life... not yet played Crysis (not ready to play on low settings till the new laptop is purchased)... But don't miss out on COD4
-
CoD4 = one of the best FPS ever made
Crysis = meh, Far Cry with pretty graphics and a powerful suit instead of a bad ass Hawaiian shirt.
As for the shotgun... You start each mission in CoD4 with 2 guns. Usually an assault rifle and pistol. However on most levels you'll find an enemy that'll have a shotgun and you can pick up enemy guns. Shotgun is completely useless in anything except close quarters combat though, so you'll find yourself just using an assault rifle and nailing people from behind cover most of the time. There's certain spots when a shotgun is great though: namely when fighting inside houses and buildings. But you can't chose to have it all the time... You CAN, however, in multiplayer
I find CoD4s mission to be really replayable myself.... especially trying to find those darn laptops
Graphics are great on both games, but you'll be able to run CoD4 smoother than you can run Crysis. -
Crysis is replayable
CoD4 however, is ****ing impossible on Veteran, it instead becomes a challenge to get to the next save instead of shooting people, and that destroyed the whole game for me, it was fun for a while, a charming story, but in the end, forever respawning enemies takes the piss. -
although I dont have both games
I played the demos and I found the CoD4 one to be much more enjoyable even though it was much shorter than the Crysis one. Crysis offered much better eye candy but it really taxed my systems capability....
-
Having played both with a G1S (8600GT, and not mine
) I have to say that COD 4 is a better shooting, but single player is really quite short but ver enjoyable. Crysis on the other hand is replayable as other said, that are many different way of doing things, and blowning up huts are fun
Crysis on medium@1280x800 is still very good looking in my opinion
-
yeah crysis has not one thing on COD4
-
As someone who played both, COD4 is one the best fps ever made: beautiful graphics, GREAT storyline, which is a must for me,and an awesome multiplayer.
Crysis, although I`ve played it and finished it 3 times, was just a driver tester for meevery new driver made me reinstal it so I could tell if it were better or not
-
I got COD 4 today and Sins of a Solar Empire...I am hoping those keep me busy on the 14 hour plane ride
The only thing mentioned about COD 4 that I dont like is the respawning enemies...gah...that seems unrealistic and silly. DOes it really detract from the game that much? -
-
I think both games are really fun SP wise. Crysis is different every time you play it, because of the freedom of play which is why I prefer it over COD4's SP. However, nothing can beat COD online
. On a side note, just because you can't play crysis on very high, DX10 at 1920x1080 doesn't mean it won't look good
-
I have both and like everyone else Call of Duty 4 hands down. Great story line, great graphics. If I could only have one game COD4 would be it.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i would 2nd that, but i'll 50th it instead. CoD4 is much, much better than crysis.
-
I have both, I like cod4 better, crysis on 800x600 doesn't look that good. But i love how you can drive and shoot.
-
get BOTH. there aren't nearly enough quality alternatives out there to warrant choosing one over the other. those who say otherwise can go back to playing whatever the heck they're playing after they're done with CoD4.

COD 4 was the best in my opinion. especially the sniper level
That was very unique i think. Also when you beat the game don't forget the level after the credits. Its kinda fun. As far as respawning enemies go I found that they would keep coming as long as you kept still but as soon as you move on to the next section then new spawn points are created and so forth. One level took me atleast 20 tries but by the end it was so worth it. You all probably know which one that was. Crysis looks really good and has its moments but after a while I found myself getting really bored. They overhyped it. Sure It definitely stands up to its graphical ratings but gameplay was crap.
-
Oh yea... saving some guy on the airplane from terroists reminded me of CS... that last level was definitely an interesting bonus level.
And yea, my choice goes to CoD4.... it's a bit more realistic than crysis, surely more fun, but the downside is that it's a short game. -
pretty close, but COD4 is my choice due to multiplayer and storyline.
-
I think the people have spoken.
COD4 is the clear winner. As others have said, the single player campaign is a cinematic experience that will go down in history as one of the most finely crafted masterpieces of the video game industry.
And don't forget, it also has one of the best multiplayer experiences of all time. I cannot state this strongly enough. -
i disagree, one thing i like about cod4, is sometimes i like to just hole up somehwhere and shot shot shoot and have a right old shoot out for ages witht he re spawning enemies
the thing that is shifty tho,is that you ca just like run to a certain point to get to the next bit, thats where the game falters on some levels and makes it unrealistic
although who will ever forget the 1st time they ever played through the game and that 1st level on the boat, or the shock and awe level flying in the chopper on the gun,or when you gotta rescue the pilot etc
awsme,awsome game
crysis gets crap near the end and the game gets ruinined, i think cod4 is far the right choice for the original poster
also check out rainbow 6 vegas, will run great on your machine, and its a fabulous game, a lot more playability than cysis, looks great, some brilliant levels , its also fantastic plating coop with a mate on lan though the levels 1, it lasts for weeks till you complete it,and it will be quite cheap , i love vegas -
"cinematic" was the word that I was looking for myself..
-
yeah COD4 is AMAZING!!! great storyline, and endss with a great cliffhanger which would warrent me paying 1000 dollars just to find out what happend.
-
COD4 definetly, while crysis is fun, I just couldn't help but roll my eyes about the aliens at the end of the game. If they had just stuck with a military storyline without the sci fi it would've been better in my opinion.
-
/kick dead horse.
-
if you do decide to get both... play crysis first... other wise if you do it the other way round.. u ain't gonna be playing crysis for a long time...
-
i agree it was a great level, thats the type of level, wellt he whiole game, to play on your own with headphones on late at night with most of the lights off and proper imerse yourself in it
one thing tho on the sniper level, and the game in general, it would be good if there was a little bit more free roam and different ways, rather than the following along style , it would of been great to have a right royal shoot out by the convoy, and other parts of the game, im currently playing the game back throgh as i lost my save after id completed it, so im gonna try that n see what happens
fabulous game tho -
Only thing I didn't like about CoD4 were the shadow effects. Shadows cast on character models, especially the ghillie suit look HORRIBLE sometimes.
-
GET COD4 as its very good and if u get time ur multiplayer then itll be a blast.
-
Cod4 By Far
-
cod4 has my pick, never played crysis (well dont dare to on 8400 gs). well cod4 has a really good single player mode, easy on easy, and very challenging on vetran. but then again how long is your airplane ride? i finished the game in well under 5 hours
-
Im off to Dubai...so NY to Dubai = 12 hrs...I have C&C 3 and Sins of a Solar Empire to play too
Whats better single player wise COD 4 or Crysis?
