Ok I want to make some halo 2 vista and CSS montages I tried using fraps but its fps killer and resource hog! Is there some way I can record game footage with out draining my fps or taking up all my laptops resources? Thanks!

Have you tried Camtasia studios? I havent used screen recorders in awhile, but I heard some good things about cam studios.

    cheers

CAMstudio for sure. It has such a low profile it doesn't lag your games.

Thats the problem with some recording programs, all that HD and processor activity can slow down game performance. CAM studio is the best in this respect.

It also has plenty of great features and controls (FPS, resolution, colour, etc).

Its freeware (I think, its been a while), and pretty small.

Fraps is better than camtasia imo. Whenever i use camtasia it drops so many frames that the video isnt' worth watching.

Use fraps and set it to record 30fps and if Vsync is on turn it off. If you can set fraps to save the video to a different drive to what halo is playing off. Then pick a decent resolution to play halo in, i wouldnt recommened recording above 1280x720 and i think it would have to be a bit lower than that with your processor.

Fraps for me takes the least resources out of the programs i've tried. Just don't pick a super high framerate, resolution while recording. To get 60fps you would need a faster cpu and even then you need to limit the resolution or your HDD will bottleneck.

Your laptop should have an external VGA or HDMI out port...hook that up to something that can record input directly, and set Windows to clone your display onto the second monitor.
