Whats your favorite mmorpg
Just a couple things that has to be taken into account before you answer.
It has to be completely free. GW has a cover price so it doesn't count. It can have payment options for special items and whatnot but the majority of the game can be played for free. Like in Maple story you can buy outfits but its not necessary.
A game that's still updated frequently enough.such as guildwarsize
Runescape doesn't count ^_^
I'm looking for a new mmo right now to play since I kinda quit GW. Three years is a bit much for one game lol.
-
honestly man you're gonna wanna go with a mmo that costsca monthly fee. free mmo's arent the best.
-
you are taking out about 90% percent of the MMO if are trying to find out about the free ones. Every Free MMO i've tried have suck and will suck for this reason i am going to ignore your request and say Eve Online is the best one out there.

Best Free to Play = Runes of Magic
Best Pay to Play = Warhammer Online -

This is Signal2Noise's wife typing. I'm sorry to say my husband has just gone into cardiac arrest reading that criteria.
P.S. I know my hubby would say +2 EVE Online if this post was about real MMORPGs. -
Runescape of course. It has awesome graphics and you can cut wood and light it on fire and then cut some more wood to light some more fires!
You can keep on doing that all day long and you still won't get to level 99! Thats what I call re-playability! /end sarcasm -
lol it's a harsh world for "free" MMOs
Anyways OP, what exactly do you look for in an MMO? Is there a type or feature you prefer? Is grind your fancy? -
If some one says the vest mmo = x dont listen to them. It's all personal prefrence. But a great mmo to try is age of conan. It's been my fav mmo that I've ever played (I've played mmo's for the past 8 years) you can look me up in the game if you'd like. I'm a lvl 80 assassin on the server set my name is zmgp. You don't even have to buy the game to try it. You can download a 1 week free trial to give it a test.

flyff is a decent free mmorpg I guess.

Free MMOs generally are horrible.
Most of them aren't actually free, you just pay for them differently.
"free to play, but costs real money to actually do anything" aren't actually free.
My favorite "almost free" MMO right now is Lineage2. -

Champions online!!(Hopefully soon)

The best free-to-play MMO, hands down, is now Dungeons and Dragons Online. For a once pay-to-play game, I didn't think it was that great. But as a free-to-play MMO now, it's hard to beat.
There's a thread about it here:
Dungeons and Dragons Online Goes Free To Play August 6 -

so is this game going to be free to play forever after August 6th? or is it just for that week

I guess it depends on your definition of "a good MMORPG" doesn't it? Personally, I've tried different varieties(paying and free) and at the base they more or less look pretty similar.

I really enjoyed the old star wars galaxies. It was a very open game with a great community but went down hill after they changed the game too much.
The next MMORPG I am really looking forward to is Fallen Earth It has that open world feel and many of the players who enjoyed the old SWG are looking to this game to fill that gap.
If you are a file planet subscriber you can get into BETA to take a look. Also the wiki is a good source of info. -

Hehe, I played SWG for a couple months or so and then quit. Came back again about a year later, quit again after a couple months. I never played it before all the major changes though, everyone says it was better back then.
The MMO I am looking forward to is Star Wars The Old Republic, its probably going to have a monthly fee, but you never know ^^ (so it has at least a remote possibility of being free) -

I really recommend S4 League. It's not really a MMO, but a free Third person shooter with MMO character progression.
It's this hybrid crazy thing. Really addicting.
I also like Battlefield Heroes, but I sorta suck at it
The best current free MMORPG(and the second best MMORPG currently) is Atlantica according mmorpg.com . It's a a actual turn based MMORPG.
People say its more final fantasy than final fantasy 13, due to its old school tactical combat system. People praise it for brining something actual new to the table.
Another game I like is Dragoncia. Dragoncia is a cute side scrolling hack'n slash MMO that mixes 3D with 2D. It's a massive step up from previous 2D mmos like maple story.
but of course everybody and their mother are waiting for Blade and Soul and Continent of the Ninth(search both games on youtube and you will see what I mean)...
I defintely like the fact that MMOs are becoming more action heavy and scrapping that lame auto-attack stuff. -

If there are no ships/space combat in SWTOR it will suck. The way things are looking SWTOR is just Tabula Rasa in Lucas' universe.
The next sci-fi mmo to watch, imo, is Star Trek Online. -
