For me, I have this weird thing of only buying games that have a metacritic score of 80 or higher on my laptop.

Won't play any games online. WoW was the only exception and the community did not make the game any better.

Won't play games on the Wii.

Won't install mods because I like the idea of clean, standalone installations; I don't like the idea of hunting down mods, updating them, organizing them, etc.

I have to be able to play on a lag free computer all the time, or I get upset and just stop playing altogether because I feel like im watching a crappy claymation on YouTube, not a video game.

Baka tends to try to buy Razer gear for everything ._.

Baka tends to buy games but not play them ._. -Stares at about 80% of unplayed steam games in library- >.>

Baka hates playing a multiplayer game solo. Rather spectate unless Baka gets a premade team of people Baka knows.

    ESDF FTW! :D

My peeve has now become install discs. I don't mind having them, provided the game can be activated on Steam or similar service so I can download it later or from somewhere I don't have access to the disc. Though I have to admit I'm frustrated by Origin because there are some newer EA games I want to play, but Origin sucks. Thankfully Crysis and Mirror's Edge are still on Steam.

I buy many games assuming I'm gonna play them. I speculate the fun I am going to have, but I never get myself to play them. I get that feeling like I have to start everything, learn too much, and the sort.

I only buy games on sale - typically 75% off or better, though I'm willing to compromise for the right game - but I make up for the savings by buying a lot of games that I'll never end up playing. I'm about 50/50 on Steam, but I've bought half a dozen indie bundles (always above the average, though more recently not much above) and probably haven't played half a dozen games between them.

And I don't play with people around. If I hear my girlfriend knocking, Alt+Tab every time. She knows I play games occasionally, but I've gone on enough months-long gaming binges to have a bit of self-loathing about it.

    And no multiplayer.

Finally, although I've been playing point-and-click adventures since Hugo's House of Horrors as a kid, I rarely make it through one without some kind of guide. I'm willing to put several hours into working my way through a game, but there's always some borderline- or completely illogical puzzle, some silly middle step before a puzzle can be solved, or simply a point where I stop caring enough to put my brain to the grindstone and just want to skip ahead to the next part.

I would call these "quirks" or even just "habits" or "characteristics" rather than peeves, though. A peeve would be more like something that irritates you, not something you do - some of the above posts list peeves, but most of the things listed here are what we do, not what bothers us.

I hate it when people watch over my shoulder when I'm playing a game and try to tell me what to do.

On the other side of the same token...

I hate when I'm watching people play and there's something they obviously should have done and you noticed it, but the person still playing still doesn't do it or doesn't realize they need to do it.

Along the same lines, I hate when I play multiplayer games and someone quits the match because they are not doing all that well and blame everybody else for using hacks or cheats. And they are doing equally as well, if not better, as everyone else.

    This. Time ten thousand! GAHHHHHH!

Also, I hate pinky drag. It is the bane of existance. Hence, I have a R.A.T.7. :)

I refuse to play most multiplayer games unless I have friends online. I will only play MW3 without friends, because I own at that game.

I will fantasize all day about playing Skyrim when I get home, and then not play it.

Same as you guys, I'll not play half of my games. I've probobly got like 10 hours on Steam games. The only game in the last 3 years I actually spent seriious time on was Skyrim, and I'm at like 200 hours probobly since it came out.

Lastly, I cannot force myself to join a server with over 100 ping. I have a great connection, that is unaceptable! Lol.

I have two rather similar peeves for the past half-year. Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles (which is not a PC game, but, whatever). One is awarded GotY from multiple sources, spawns annoying memes, and just generally comes up in discussion all over the place. The other is hyped to kingdom come and hailed as the best JRPG of this generation. But I simply don't concur. I don't like either one of them, and I'm honestly a fantasy/JRPG fan since childhood. So it gets frustrating hearing constant praise over the months and not being able to empathize.

But soon, I will have Diablo III and The Last Story, and those both look much more up my alley.

    1. Only play SP games, the occasional MMO is the exception but even then I never really play with others and tend to solo most of the game.

    2. I buy games and never play them (seems to be a trend here, lol). My Steam library is 180+, i've played maybe 20 of them once or more.

    3. I spend WAY TOO MUCH on gaming hardware that almost never gets used (see #2).

I've played a bit of Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story on my pc thanks to Dolphin! They look much better in HD native resolution than the Wii's native rez and play super smooth on my Lappy.

And on a side note, I also like to play naked on my bed with my wireless mouse, keyboard and Xbox 360 controller in hand's reach :D

not spending more then 5 dollars a game and trying to keep a nice average of 2-3 dollars for my whole account :) I love them packs and daily deals. Mine is about 300 games lol. I was at one point played about 75% or more...that was at ~180 games but i have ballooned to ~300 games and i have played probably about 150 of them games...

I also hate playing by myself...I used to play by myself in high school and earlier and had a lot of online friends to play with but no more....i hate playing by myself because its really a waste of time...i rather play it with someone and be able to talk about the experience and have memories with friends...hell even with strangers if i am not alone playing it....just boring.

avoid FPS multiplayer now because it is a complete time suck and get no story or anything out of it. I like an occasional FPS multiplayer for a quick in and out gaming just to have a little fun but will never loose 8-12 hours a day again to PVK CS or firearms again. That was fun but I feel it was a waste of life....probably was :/

I generally can't stand team oriented games. I've been playing Diablo 2 for the past 6 years, and while I play on battle.net, I will usually only pvp one-on-one, as opposed to 4v4 matches and the like.

Same deal with Counterstrike, and generally any other fps I may happen to try, I stick with the free for all matches, rather then the team modes. I also refuse to try League of Legends and similar games, as I would not enjoy them at all :p

I can't stand when a game is released with glaringly obvious flaws in balance, and the developers proceed to do absolutely nothing about it. The two biggest examples off the top of my head that I'm currently playing are Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Without getting into too much detail, classes in SWTOR are arranged so that each faction has an equivalent mirror class in the opposite faction. For example, the Jedi Knight vs. the Sith Warrior. Both are medium/heavy armor melee DPS or tanking classes, able to equip one or two single-blade lightsabers, and their abilities are all basically equivalent. Same goes for Republic Trooper vs. Bounty Hunter, Smuggler vs. Imperial Agent. However, Bioware really dropped the ball between the Jedi Consular and the Sith Inquisitor. Long story short, each class has an "instant" long-range Force damage ability. The Sith version is called Shock, and simply instantly electrocutes a target upon casting. The Consular mirror ability, Project, has an instant cast, but involves a 1-second animation in which the Jedi pulls a rock or junk out of the ground and throws it at the target. In the Jedi's case, the damage is delayed by that one second, while the Inquisitor's mirror ability is fully instant.

This may not seem like a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but look at this way: there is no way to avoid the Sith's Shock ability. You can't see it coming, you can't interrupt it, and damage is instant. In PvP, I can't tell you how many times I've cast Project at someone only to have them activate Vanish and stealth away, leaving my rock floating and dealing no damage. Also, if the enemy is capping a point or something, Shock will instantly interrupt that action as soon as the button is clicked, while Project will not interrupt until the rock floats up, flies and hits its target.

This has been a known issue and has been posted about in the SWTOR forums in multiple hundred-page long threads in the months since the game's release, and there have been two major content patches and countless weekly patches, with no fix for this.

My other example, Call of Duty. It seems like the developers release the game, fix one thing in the first patch that they do, and then never touch the game ever again. In Modern Warfare 2, it's what happened with the Model 1887 shotgun and Care Package sprinting; they fixed those in the only patch that game ever received, and the game was never updated again, leaving huge balance issues like the akimbo G18's untouched. The same is happening now in MW3; things like akimbo FMG9's and the MP7 are blatantly overpowered and throw off the balance of the game to the point that if you don't use the MP7, you are statistically crippling yourself because it is better than every other weapon. And I know it will never get fixed.

Plenty of games have had balance issues through the years, but at least most developers have the decency to try and do something about it. Team Fortress 2 introduces new weapons and items with new stats all the time, and yet Valve finds the time to go back and balance things, often multiple times. Battlefield 3 has gone through several balance tweak patches. Not all of them have been very popular, but god damn, at least DICE is trying.

That's one thing I praise Blizzard for. They continually support and update most of their products. WoW is updated weekly (though they have great incentive to do so) and even their older games such as Diablo 2 and Starcraft have been patched throughout the years, and received continuous support.

I'll use Diablo 2 as an example, because it's the game I am most familiar with. Blizzard has constantly released patches (even if some major issues were never fixed) and reset the ladder, which is something I bet most companies would have dropped years ago. PvP balance was never quite perfected, but heck the game was PvM focused anyway, and most of those issues were ironed out over the years.

It's a shame that some companies seem to disregard their customers, and drop support of a game so quickly. It's even more disheartening that they don't provide updates for a multiplayer game, where game balance is of the utmost importance.

It's not that Bioware hasn't been updating the game; they still have weekly updates, and sometimes multiple updates per week. There's just this one glaring flaw they have yet to address that really brings down the overall experience for us Consulars. That, and healing was nerfed across the board with 1.2, but that's another story. :p

I have to play with my dogs locked up. If they are allowed to roam around, my little one gets tangled in every cord possible and the big one loves to lay her head right on my keyboard and do that eye pout thing dogs do. Then I yell at her to move, but she starts eye pouting even more and it turns into a viscous cycle.

Crysis 2, and there is a mod for Skyrim where you can see your own body but it's still alpha.

    This...

Any game that has that "feature", I automatically dismiss, no matter how good it is. Seeing as I only usually play PC games when I can't use the Internet, that would kill it for me.

When movement is, by default, mapped to Up, Down, Left, Right instead of WASD.
