are those ever set until two months before they actually come out? I mean, its always thrown up in the air I would think, no matter what part you look at on any system desktop, notebook, server....

maybe im wrong but you grab the best available, if you wait until tomorrow for something better to buy, you will never see tomorrow come

I am looking forward to purchasing a new laptop and im just waiting for the next best thing asides from the 8700gt since its only a midrange card... If im planning to play lets say Crysis and the highest settings and the max. resolution and minimum 30fps I believe the 8700gt is right on the verge of failing to meet my excpectations... Since Crytek "mistakenly" and "falsely" put up requirements "probably for press and rumor" that the I guess required requirements are T7200 and a 8800gts 640mb o_O

Probably is correct. Most likely new graphics cards will launch with Intel's Montevina platform, which will bring Intel's replacement for the X3100.

The XPS M1730 will not have an 8800m, at least not at first. No one's even sure right now if there will ever be an 8800m. I'm guessing you're just looking for a DX10 style 256-bit GPU, and I'd say that's not possible until nVidia's die shrink to 65nm, which I'm guessing won't happen until this winter.

Desktop: November (semi-official date, been leaked a few places)
    Laptop: March/April timeframe.

This is following NVidia's official policy: Main refresh (high-end cards, completely new generation) each fall/early winter, and late spring, launch of derived cards.
Basically, the spring refresh is for all the optimized cards (performance/cost, performance/watt, or just plain price), while the fall launch is for breaking new ground (new architecture, new performance record, new features)

Of course, they can (and do) still release cards outside this schedule, but only minor tweaks to existing ones (like if they have to compete with an ATI card that's $7 cheaper, or 14mhz faster, or if they need to get rid of a lot of chips with a few defective shader units)

So are you including the next mobile 256-bit card in this prediction, or do you believe it will be released as part of the current generation?

If nVidia stands true, than this November would see the release of the next high end desktop variant, with the mid range following in the spring.

Possibly seeing a higher end mobile card this year, but likely not till next summer.
