I am trying to decide whether or not to buy the m1710 now or wait until they update the card with a DX10 compatible card. I would hate to wait more than a few months. Any thoughts?

I believe that Dell has phased out that model (which has many names: e1705, Inspiron 9400, M1710, etc...).

All the major OEMs have moved onto Santa Rosa platform for Core 2 Duo's.

    So don't hold your breathe.

No, the XPS M1710 is still very much a going concern. I should have been more specific.

Again, the Dell e1705 (aka. Inspiron 9400, XPS M1710) is getting phased out... looks like there wont be another upgrade for it anymore.

Dell will probably be releasing a Santa Rosa model to replace it.

    Uh, no...

The E1705 is identical to an Inspiron 9400, except they're called E1705 in the US and the 9400 elsewhere (like in Canada). The XPS M1710, while VERY SIMILAR to the E1705, is not an identical system.

You're probably right about it being phased out though and a new XPS system replacing it.

Yea he doesn't mean an XPS 17 inch won't be there...it'll probably be like XPS1720 or something like that.

I expect it very soon though, within 2 months or so. I posted some info. in the Dell forum regarding a pretty good guess about it.

Whenever the 8800m model graphics card comes out (maybe a few weeks after). They don't seem to like putting sub-highend mobile processors in their 17" XPS computers.

And they shouldn't! ;) XPS branding is on stake if they mess it up. I already think having an 8400m card in an XPS notebook is not a good idea.
