Hi, I am thinking about buying a laptop for gaming and eventually school. I would need to purchase it before October or November or so.

I have been looking at the Sager NP9280 because I want to get Intel core i7 but I also want dual GTX 280m's. I believe there is another laptop from Clevo that has dual GTX 280m's but I think it has quad core instead of i7. Does anyone know if Clevo, Sager, xoticpc or anything similar will have a laptop with Intel Core i7 and dual GPU sometime in the near future?

    Thanks

I recommend you to do a search before posting.

It is already known that the Clevo M980NU (aka. Sager NP9850) will have SLI GTX 280M's.

Thanks thats the one I was thinking of, the Clevo M980NU. I suppose what I am asking is will SLI GTX 280m's be available along with Intel Core i7 anytime soon. Because I believe the M980NU doesn't offer Core i7?

not going to happen until Intel launches the mobile Core i7 line... late this year to early 2010.

... unless if Clevo decides to design a new notebook.

but the Clevo M980NU is top draw for gaming with mobile quad-core and SLI GTX 280M's.

then you have the direct competitors:
    - ASUS W90 .... dual ATI 4870
    - maybe the upcoming Alienware notebook if it has dual videocards.

Oh ok, I don't think I have seen the Clevo M980NU selling anywhere, is it not available yet?

Which would be better for gaming, Core i7 and a single GTX 280m or quad core and dual GTX 280m?

If I do buy a gaming laptop it would need to last probably about 3 to 4 years or so, which laptop do you think would have a better chance of being able to play games for that long?

    thanks

I was told that Sager is working on a driver for the 9262 for a GTX 280m SLi, anyone else hear of this??

the M980NU will not be available until Summer... a few sites are taking pre-orders now.

as for a notebook to last 3-4 years... as long as you are getting:
    - a quad-core supported notebook
    - with a high-end (256-bit) videocard

... your system will last... given that you maintain the system (by regularly clean out the vents/fans and monitoring the temps)

my D900K (the world's first dual core notebook) is over 3 years old now, and can still game better than today's mid-range systems. :)

Ok sounds like I'll just wait then. If when I need to buy a laptop Core i7 isn't available with dual GTX 280m's what would you recommend?

The Core i7 and single GPU or quad core and dual GPUs?

for gaming go with the dual gtx 280m's. the core2quad 9300 will be powerful enough to last a long time.

Depends on your preference. If your going to play games gpu > cpu. A quad core would be more than enough especially with a gtx 280m sli. But for anything else besides gaming, a core i7 would be nice.
