By mid-range, I mean able to fit into a 15.4". I know the 8800M will be released soon, but since it won't fit into a 15.4"... Will something like the 8800GT be announced, which uses the same architecture but is more efficient, or should I wait until the 90 series is released and wait 6 months after that? Obviously, just give what you think will happen, since I'm sure if anyone did know anything like this they'd be under NDA.

Everyone is just speculating. What high end cards were in the 15.4" notebooks in the last gen? 7600,7700 if we are talking Nvidia. No 7800/7900 GTX/GS were in those notebooks. I assume it is the same this gen, no high end GPU´s will be in the 15.4" notebooks because of the amount of heat they generate.

I think the OP is just talking about a more efficient mid-range card.

Anyway, there is no solid information on this.

highly doubtful that they will do a mid range for 8 series other than the 8600gs and gt....maybe possible to do a 8700m using a smaller die and making it more efficient somehow but thats probably not gonna happen. best bet is 9 series for mid range.

8700mgs would be identical to 8600mgt since 8700mgt is just an overclocked version of the 8600m

They might clock it up closer to the 8700 though :D and therefore wish to give it a new name so it sounds cooler ;)

Hmm, so no 8700-like performance in a 15.4" for a while? Too bad, I guess. Maybe I'll just wait then.

By the time you wait you will be in the same predicament full circle.

yes... groundhog day... lather, rinse, repeat.

I toiled with this for a while and realized just that. Buy when you want/need to. Otherwise you'll keep second guessing yourself.
