Simple Question, probably not a simple answer. It seems from what I have read from more knowledgeable posters that the biggest difference between low/mid and high end laptop cards are the bit rates. Will we see higher than 128-bit cards commonly in 15" and smaller laptops anytime soon?

Are you talking about RAM?
-
no he is not. he is talking about the memory bus. and my answer to the question is - "when 256 bit memory complient cards can actually fit into the notebook without serious overheating."
-
Any idea how long that will be? -

It doesn't make a lot of sense, after all if you are going to play in very high resolutions to these kind of cards show their power you should also use a bigger screen.

My answer would be "When ATi and NVidia think we need mainstream cards with 256-bit memory bus".
Obviously both thought 128-bit would be enough for this generations mainstream cards, and both wants us to think the value in these cards lies in improved hardware video acceleration and DX10 compability instead of raw gaming performance.
One thing is certain though, we won't see 256-bit mainstream cards in notebooks until they show up on the desktop market.
When will we see 256-bit Cards in 15" and Small Laptops
