I want to get some games to test my new notebook, but I don't remember my Stream password and I'm far away from where it's noted down. So I went to Google the PC demos of recent hot titles. What have I found? Almost nothing.

Did the game publishers found that releasing demos is actually bad for their sales? Why don't they release demos any more?

Demos are rare nowadays because most people in the game industry are dumba**es who think demos just hurt sales and increase piracy. They actually do the opposite, unless your game happens to be crap, in which case you deserve to have low sales.

Instead of releasing demos, the brilliant marketing departments at these publishers discovered that they can still get decent pre-orders and sales by duping customers with bait-and-switch tactics such as false advertising and preview footage that's unrepresentative of the final product. If there were actual publicly-released, hands-on demos for garbage like Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Aliens: Colonial Marines, nobody would have bought these games at all.
