I want to by a processor good enough for gaming in canada for my laptop, is this possible? If so where. If not where do you buy them in U.S.?
-
What do you mean "good enough for gaming"? What is your current CPU? You do realize, for the majority of games, the GPU, (Graphics Processor) is a much bigger factor.
-
What KGann said. These days any Dual-Core processor is decent enough for gaming. What you want to look at is getting a strong graphics processor (GPU), because THAT is what will be the limiting factor in games.
That said, it is not likely you will find a processor much faster than the one you already have. Most laptops have a VERY narrow range of processors and GPUs that will function in their particular motherboard.
Please give us more information about your current computer. -
Once you've sorted out what you really need based on the other poster's replies you can order thru www.tigerdirect.ca.
-
you might also need to look for gaming hard drive, gaming ram, gaming screen, gaming wifi, gaming keyboard, gaming webcam, gaming finger print reader as well.
-
What Storm Effect said.

I havent bought the laptop yet. This is helping me decide. here is a link to it.

I also read that the processor for this speecific notebook is easily upgradeable. -
That laptop will be fine for gaming.
-
I know but I want to upgrade the processor, where can I get a laptop processor?
-
newegg.com
-
where are the laptop processors?
-
If you're going to upgrade, a better choice might be the P6860FX from Best Buy.
6860FX vs 172S FX
Same graphic card,
bluetooth vs no bluetooth,
320GB 5400 vs 160 GB 7200,
4GB vs 3GB RAM,
a/b/g/draft-n vs b/g,
tray load vs slot load.
And frankly, you could game with the default processor as well.
Also, gateway does not ship to Canada, neither does Best Buy. -
ok, Ive sorted out the shipment of the laptop I just want a site that sells laptop processors in Canada.
-
The best place to buy a laptop processor in Canada is ncix.com but yea gateway.com doesn't ship to Canada.
-
I'm not sure it is worth it to upgrade the processor, that particular processor is more than enough for most games.
-
But, the Gateway's do benefit greatly from an upgraded processor. I think the OP would just appreciate some links rather than lectures.
-
Ok so do all of these go in a laptop aswell as a PC? I dont see a place that says laptop processors.

Do they? Link it for me? And also a link showing that an upgraded processor functions properly in the system.
What happens when he buys a "gaming processor" and the system explodes, burning his house down? Yeah, he sues NBR and we all end up in prison, that's what.
Use google.

No, most of those are desktop processors. The only ones that would work in current model laptop are the t8100, the t8300 and t9300. There are other more high end laptop processors that aren't sold at ncix.
-
well thats what Im asking for where can I buy them???
-
thanks but do any of those sites ship to canada?
-
nm what i said before. Here's a link for the x9000, the most powerful laptop processor although it's special order:

The only one in that list I am sure ships international is BeachAudio. I think it was the second on the list.
-
Look in the Gateway section, some of the guys hav been mucking around with X9000s in their machines and getting awesome results.
-
Impressive. Go Gateway!
