I plan to get cs but I heard the client is free w/ half life 1. If half life 1 is only 10 bucks, as is cs online, then I mind as well get half life 1 and see the beginning of the story (I've played through half life 2 and the episodes).
I was wondering what *RETAIL* stores have you seen that still sell half life 1.
Thanks guys.
Just keep in mind, I really just want to play cs but if I can get it w/ half life 1 for the same price, it would be better.

O i forgot to add, I plan to look at retail stores not via online

Since you already have Half Life 2, then you get CS: Source for free through Steam.

Your best chance is to find one of the anthology editions of half life sitting on the shelf at a Best Buy or Staples or Office Max or something. I bought my first two copies of the original game that way at Best Buy, then again the second copy I got was over 3 years ago, before Steam was popular.

Seriously though, use Steam. They've got many more payment options now, not just credit card (eg. PayPal, or get someone else with a CC to buy it for you and "gift" you the game, then you can pay them back or whatever).
Besides, you'll have to use Steam if you want to play Counter Strike, and although you can possibly find original HL1 copies around, the Steam version of the engine has been upgraded a fair bit (eg. widescreen resolutions). -
Retail stores' copies of half-life 1 will only be able to be MODDED to let you play counter-strike. This mod is no longer supported as Steam has taken over; the WON servers are shut down. However, there is a WON2 network running but I'm not sure if that uses Steam's counter-strike 1.6 or not, in which case you'll have to buy counter-strike separately, with its own CD key.
Good Luck -

Thanks guys, I really do believe I will just purchase 1.6 on its own.
