Any insights why Alienware still is silent on 900m? (also Razer)

Sure, I have it already over here in my time machine... ;)

I think this is best answered by the response I received from a reseller when I enquired if their particular models would be updated with the 900M series anytime soon:

So I guess the reality is that that Alienware and Razer are actively refreshing the entire chassis and not just switching the GPU. MSI developed their new GT72 chassis in advance so that they would be ready for the 900M series as soon as they launched. ASUS seemingly did the same. Clevo are simply using the existing chassis's from before (with the exception of a new model launching in November I believe).

No doubt they will show off their new models at CES 2015 (but hopefully earlier).

I see I see, then I guess I am waiting until Alienware and Razer will bring up their aces in the hole :) This GIGABYTE P35x v3 madness seems amazing (ultrabook with 980m stuff) but the chasis is kinda worrying me, some heat readings from previous gen were like ridiculous finger-toast hazard danger level :D

I know they have upgraded the cooling system on the Alienware 18. I hope they updated the display as well :)

Intel blogged that Alienware is offering overclocked CPUs up to 4.4GHz in their AW18, and that this should result in higher temps. But the engineering team from Alienware have upgraded the cooling system to accommodate.

Nothing more was revealed but it surely sounds connected to what Cakefish was talking about

Well, after some research last night I found out that Alienware will offer the same family chassis + 13" ultraportable notebook (860m in it) the following year and said "To hell with carrying 20 pound bags! I AM F******* 30!!" and bought MSI GS60 3k Pro with 970m (I am willing to sacrifice 20% performance for my back essentially). Sad though, as I really wanted to max out an Alienware 17 this year :( I guess getting old has its disadvantages (many).

At twice the price and warranty void if you touch the bottom panel with your fingers.
