I may be purchasing a refurbished ThinkPad W700 off of eBay that will have a FX 2700M, it uses MXM 2.1 interface regarding the GPU, so it is user replaceable and did also configure with a FX 3700M, it is about the same performance as a 9800M GTX. Where could i buy one of these cards other than Lenovo?

Ebay has them sometimes, and you might want to check with RJTECH.com. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

ebay or RJtech.com is ur best bet... have u considered getting an MXM2.1 GTX280M if it can work? It would be an epic upgrade.

Well sure it would in theory be, but it could also be a hassle, and i would have to check with the location of heat generating components, since the W700 has it's own dedicated heatsink for the GPU, so it is custom designed for contact to heat generating components on the stock cards, also i'm pretty sure any ThinkPad whitelists a GeForce from being in there, the FX 3700M (9800 GTX) would be pretty damn close to all i want right now in terms of power. Also it is in theory more powerful than the 9800 GTX since it has 128 stream processors whereas the 9800 GTX i think only has 92 or something.

The FX 3700 is more closely related to the GTX 280 than to the 9800 GTX. In fact, it is just an underclocked GTX 280... or the GTX 280 is an overclocked FX 3700, however you want to see it.

    ebay has some nice stuff.

Be wary, though, those are engineering sample GPU's. ES CPU's are ok, but I don't know much about ES GPU's.
