So my laptop is supposed to have 285m GTX (just got it so i dont know)
Everything just yells "standard VGA graphic card". I remember having this happen on my old laptop because i didnt have new drivers or something.

I can't seem to find the drivers for it..
Nvidia site gives drivers that are compatible with 280m gtx but doesn't work on 285m gtx.

    edit
the driver CD i got with the laptop says "Device was not found or please enable it before installing its driver!!"

time to call manufacturer...? if its new you should have warranty etc.

does device manager see the card in display adapters?

Try the above or head over to laptopvideo2go.com and look for a modded driver for your OS.

Wouldn't the GTX 285M use the same drivers as the GTX 280M, from the NVIDIA site?

Try Dox 195.62, they have GTX285s in the inf so may work out the box, or any other recent set of drivers with modified inf from laptopvideo2go.
The driver CD that came with your laptop probably comes with drivers with GTX280 support, rather than the GTX285 because the 285 was only released recently.

I started wondering that maybe this is a problem with some other drivers(like chipset) so the computer can't recognize the graphics card because it's so new?

    Could this be possible?

I'd rather try everything else before installing custom/3rd party drivers :p

I brought the laptop from notebookguru and their download section is not ready for some reason.
I'll contact them soon if i cant solve this problem myself.

    no thats not the issue

the offical nvidia drivers didnt have the 285 in the inf files. If you want differnet drivers you have to go 3rd party

    simple as that

    How bizarre on downloading Dox.

As long as you have an official driver with the modded inf which adds your card, you should be fine. They're virtually identical in most ways to the GTX280m, its just a case of they added the GTX285 IDs to the inf files...a little late in some cases.
