I'm not surprised that people who like either Mass Effect or Knights of the Old Republic love the other. I've been told they play pretty close to being the same. Apart from obvious things - Mass Effect being better graphically etc.

The first installment was highly impressive, but I couldn't help feeling that FFX-2 was one giant pop video. Moms who love X-Factor, Pop Idol et al will eat it up!

I was hoping that would hit back one for the guys with a prequel tale with Auron, Braska & Jecht. Kinda like a guys night out in a bizzaro-fantasy land with Jecht's drunken escapades. Darn Squaresoft for not finishing a trilogy.

    John Woo presents STRANGLEHOLD.

Sensory presentation = through the roof, baby. Massive D = you can blow up, destroy everything! when Tequila unleashes his t-bombs, it's the most ridiculously satisfying experience to just blow $%^& up. the sounds, the swooping visuals, the frenetic action in some of those levels ... aaaaahhhhhh.....

    a cathartic 10/10

Gameplay Design = won't revolutionize 3rd person shooters, but the closest thing to being in a John Woo film (and not his crappy American films with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ben Affleck or Tom Cruise. that said, Face/Off was good). the trick in the game is to "think / play" like you're in one of his Hong Kong bullet ballets to "strategically stylize" your gameplay. sure, you can go in guns blazing, point and shoot. but you can also slide down that railing and then kick up the table for cover, then run up the stairs in slo-mo, jump and twist through the air, dodging bullets, simultaneously targeting the neon sign above your bad guy so that it falls and crushes him in a gorgeous display of carnage. sweet. the difference between a shooting a basketball off the backboard for 2 points and a 360 degree in-yo-face-you-just-got-served dunk. that's Stranglehold.

    7/10 for casual play.
10/10 for those who like to choreograph their carnage

Story ... what? really? something about a kidnapping, drugs, triads, russians, can't remember. don't think it really matters. go play Final Fantasy 7 (+1 on that recommendation. GREAT GAME!) for a story.

    N/A.

Replay value: strong. Stranglehold is like one of my favourite films -- the kind you can watch again and again and still relish in what it brought to the table in your first screening. something about it that Doom3/Quake/Hitman/Max Payne (which i also really enjoyed) etc. doesn't have.

10/10 -- if you're the kind of person who thinks films like The Killer and HardBoiled are "must sees" once a year.

    Civilization 4
Sensory presentation: 7 Best in its genre but it is no crysis ;) I would say good enough, the sounds are ok but you do often put on your own music wich makes it the best sounds ever! :) 7 is for good enough

Gameplay Design: 10 you are rewriting history over and over again!

Story: 10 No story or just story, depends on how you see it, I'll give it a 10 because you are making your own story

Replay value: 10+ It is here were CIV really shines, "Just one more turn..." is a classic and you can't imagine how fast time fly by.

I was thinking of choosing diablo 2 instead but noone had mention CIV before so...

    Dungeons and Dragons: Online (DDO)

Sensory Presentation-9 High end systems and Hi Res gameplay, this game rocks. Entering the 1st Raid against Velah the Red Dragon was easily the most astounding game experience I've ever had-truly amazing.

Gameplay Design- 6 at launch, 8.5 now To me the game would have been served by waiting a year and opening with more content and better things to do. 2+ years strong now and content quantity (and quality) is now significant, guilds and community is fabulous, 6 person parties and 12 person raids makes you not feel like just a number, solo action, crafting and the best in-game voice chat of any game.

Story-9 Many different story lines and interlinked quest paths, so a lot of variety for the non-zerg minded.

Replay Value-10 Sometimes monotonous waiting for added content, but the infinite amount of character/race combinations to play with always keep things interesting. Hey, 2+ years and still at it so either I'm easily amused or there must be something to it.

If you tried it within first 6 months or so of launch and didn't think enough content, I highly urge you to give it another whirl. My guild have people come back periodically and they are amzed at the transformation that has taken place. :D cheers

then try it out. i've never played it until recently (currently playing it) my friend gave me his copy of KOTOR for PC. it's an amazing game so far, and i feel it's much more dynamic than Mass Effect tries to be. you can really quark out pretty selfish, greedy deeds like asking for a payment before helping someone (and if they don't pay then don't even help them), or even doubling or even tripling the reward through talking to the person.

though it isn't much like the action adventure that mass effect is, KOTOR has it's point and click atmophere to it.

i'd give that game so far 9's down the row.

as for my favorite games of all time: LOZ: Ocarina of Time and LOZ: Majora's Mask, favoring the latter.

those games get 10's down the line from me. to me, they were perfect games.

The environment Bioshock builds for you is played-out perfectly. You're scared but start forgetting how scary it is; afterall you are the heroin that is to survive this story.
An example of it done wrong would be Doom3.

Yeh, i heard KOTOR has a very immersible universe that even makes click and point a very fun thing to do. Its been a while since I played those games, my last was actually Balder's Gate Shadows of Amn, and it had such a deep story and character history that I felt it should be the epitome of every free lance RPG game. There werent much combat action at all in that game, but the fact that you had to tactical with your group set up, combat, spell casting, trap setting and what not, simple click and point becomes insanely fun.

That game goes down as the best game from Bioware for me, 10s straight down, 12 for story and design! Bioware's trying to start this new action rpg genre, but honestly, just give me another baulder's gate with improved graphics and i'll be happy as a bee.

its wierd but Bioshock gives people like love/hate attitude towards it. Its either that you love the rpg/action feel, and its very environment involved story telling, or you just got past its immersion and plain hate it for feeling like you're encountering the same enemies and doing the same things over and over again.

Personally, I liked bioshock but I think playing games like bioshock makes you want to dive into the story more, like reading the mass effect novel after playing the game. Sadly theres no Bioshock novels out to my knowledge.

9, 9, 9, and 5 for replay value for this game.

    Half-Life
Sensory perception: 9.5 -- Scarily realistic for its time. Sounds of monsters off in the distance, radio communications of the soldiers, a very atmospheric soundtrack... this is something that hasn't been rivaled until Doom 3.
Gameplay Design: 10 -- This is arguably the best first-person shooter of the decade. The first-person mechanics were so polished and easy to use. A fantastic challenge
Story: 8.5 -- I'm going to give this a 8.5, because I think so much of Half-Life's story is the atmosphere itself. It's about the location, and even the mysterious and fantastic characters that make it. Sure there are no twists or sophisticated plot elements akin to Bioshock, however, this is one of the first games that had you launched into an A.I. versus A.I. versus you 3-way battle and pulled it off remarkably. Remember how jaw-dropped you were when you learned the army was actually out to *kill* you and not save you? It was complete chaos, and there was nothing like it.
Replay Value: 8 -- Again, this is arguable, but the game was such a revelation you can't help but experience the game responsible for Steam, Counter-Strike, etc. all over again.

    Okay I enjoyed this game
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

Sensory- 9.5 The graphics were great when it came out, it had actual russian voice actors so it sounded realistic and natural, the effects were awesome, and the sounds were pretty good. Scared you when you least expect it.

Gameplay- 8 The idea was cool for an RP, explore chernobyl, not really leveling up involved but still cool. The game was challenging and time consuming even on the lowest difficulty.

Story- 9 The story was changing and mysterious and had multiple conclusions based on your career. Cool idea to explore chernobyl and collect radioactive junk lol.

Replay Value- 8 The game has many different strategies and plans for playthrough its always something new.

lol That certainly would have been interesting to see! ;) I did like how at the end of X-2 they tied things up w/ Tidus and what not, but yes, it was a bit on the frilly side. :) Although it was pretty difficult to finish w/ 100% and get the super ending! ;) Anyhow, my mom's pretty much always been into just RPG's. I'll give anything a go at least once, but RPG's are my favorite as well. I'm eagerly awaiting the new FF games. I'm interested to see how the mechanics have changed and what they'd done w/ the battle system.
