I'm still pretty much a newb with this. Can someone please tell me which graphics card is best? NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 or ATI Mobility Radeon X2300.
I've shortlisted down to two laptops, both with pretty much similar specs, the only major difference that concerns me is the graphics cards.
Could somebody please give me their experienced opinion or give spec comparisons?
Thanks for your time.

not sure what the x2300 is just yet but im gonna say go with that.
-
The X2300 is a DX10 card that is replacing the X1300/X1400...meaning it will provide much better graphics when parred with Vista. Even on XP's DX9, the ATI card should provide better graphics than the nVidia card.
The X2300 card is brand new, so not a lot of users will have experience with it...but that X2300 is much more future proofed than the 7300 and should be more powerful. How much more...I can't say...but it will be better.
I'm guessing that the X2300 will probably be as powerful as the 7400/X1400...or maybe even the X1600/7600 (maybe). Definitely better than the 7300 though. -
****...tech does move fast. I was expecting the X1000 series of midrange cards to dominate for a few more months. Oh well, bring on the X2000 series!
-
Only the low end DX10 cards will be released in next few months, with the exception of the Go 8600, which should perform quite well. The faster cards, like the Go 8800 (GS and GTX), will make their debut in quite a while, because of the serious work that needs to be done to the core to prepare them for use in mobile systems.
ATI, as usual, will probably arrive at the party later on, with a modified and power optimised R600 core, which will probably be names the Mobility X2800. They have yet to release their desktop cards, but they are practically ready to be rolled of the production line. -
X2300 will probably preform better then the Go 7300 considering that they are both low end cards, only X2300 is a whole new generation.
But i hope we see the Go 8600 soon, especially in a 15.4" system..
-
The whole new generation is not going to make such a difference - it hasn't in previous generations generally speaking.
For example - 9600XT vs X600XT, X800 vs X1600, 6200 vs 7300, on paper the new generations were more powerful but in reality performed roughly more or less the same, except with obvious allowances for newer features supported but right not in DX9 the X2300 isn't going to be taking advantage of much so that point isn't so applicable. I'm sure it'll technically be better then the X1300 and 7300, but not by much at all.
I remember benching my Go6400 against my Go7400 and they were almost identical. -
I'm not sure if that is always going to be true though-look at the improvement the 8800's had over the 78/900 series. And in the mobile arena there was a significant improvement in the go7600 over the go6600. I have hope for ati they have to have something up there sleeve if they plan to stay afloat since they are losing market share to nvidia (and amd to intel)
-
Well that's a bit obvious lol. Of course the X2300 is better. Even the X1300 is better!

i might cancel that order if i were you. x2300 is not dx10 compatible.
-
What? Not DX10 compatible? I thought it was..
-
x2300 is a crap version of the r600. It's basically a dx10 version of the x1300. From my knowledge...

I agree. It's not as powerful as it sounds from what I've read.
-
I thought x2300 was Directx 9C only not 10
-
oh man~ -.- i was tinking of ordering A8Jr... any other recommendations? looking at around the budget of A8Jr ($1.3K).
-
It`s apparantly a more efficient version of the x1300, not DX10 compliant
-
ya x2300 isnt dx10 its 9.0c
sorry guys -
This is pretty disappointing. Several sources have said variations on whether X2300 is DirectX 10 or not.

The order comes through on Monday so I guess I'll have to find out then.. -

The Radeon X2300 is definitely not DirectX 10; even ATI's website says it:

It's sad. -
The Asus A8Jp is an excellent option for $1300, at least that's the price here in the US.
-
Laptops been working great so far. It doesn't get too hot and it's nice and quiet. I had a little problem with the DVD-ROM but with Asus' superb support it's all fixed now.
Does this mean the X2300 is DX10? -
I can't explain that, but as far as I know, the x2300 isn't Dx10. I thought this issue was already concluded in an older thread. Seriously, what's up with this GPU? It seems to generate so many confusions regarding its origin.
-
It may have DX10 compatibility features, so that it can take advantage of a few features in DX10 coded apps while still remaining a DX9 card.
-
As I said in the prev. thread - your image just shows the DX version.
I think my old 7500 was a DX7 card (am I right?
) but had DX9 installed.
-
If DirectX Diagnostic Tool is not good tool to test DX9 or DX10.
How can toxicGen test?
Id there any good DX10 benchmark or demo game software he can run?
By the way I saw translated Chinese web site showed x2300 was better then even go7400 in DX9 benchmark. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
My DXdiag shows DX10 as well for my 7900GT, if your hardware isnt 100% DX10 compliant, it will revert to DX9. We all should have expected the 2300 was not DX10 compliant, Just like the Radeon 9000-9200, the cards names led you to believe they were DX9 cards, like the 9500-9800, in reality they were just rehashed DX8.1 parts.
