ok well i am having trouble picking a laptop  the video card is the issue.both laptops are the same specs. But one has a Nvidia 7900 GS. and the other one has a Nvidia 8400M GT. But i have heard that the 8400 is slower than the 7600 which i presume is slower than the 7900 gs.but on the other hand the 8400M GT has Directx10...the promblem is i dont even know what that is. And will it make a drastic difference? Which one should i go with?the one with the 7900 GS or the one with the 8400M GT?

P.S:I'd like to play games like WoW on high settings,oblivion,quake4,F.E.A.R,and games like these.

You should definately go with the 7900 GS here....there is no question. The 8400M GT's performance will be abysmal compared to the 7900 GS. I don't know if you can get them at highest settings (i doubt it), but the 7900 GS will get you close to it. If you want to seriously play at highest, look for the 7950 GTX.

In this case, DX10 shouldn't be the reason you get the 8400M GT. If the comparison was between the 8600M GT and the 7900 GS, I would go with the 8600M GT.

I agree. I play F.E.A.R on high settings with my 8600M GT (not quite the highest, but very high) and it is smooth. I can't say personally about the other games, but if Quake 4 uses the Doom 3 engine then that should scream along (I play Doom 3 pretty much maxed out). I have heard many say WoW plays on high settings at less powerful cards, however Oblivion taxes even the best desktop graphics cards there are, so although you may choose settings that play it smoothly, they won't be high settings. Anyway it will still look BEAUTIFUL.

quake 4 and FEAR play GREAT. i pretty much max out both games and quake especially runs really smooth. you can max out the settings on fear, but in occasional scenarios you will get slowdown. a few little settings adjustments speed up the game alot. tweakguides.com is a good source to help do that with minimal image quality losses.
