Are the 180.70's a modded version of the 180.48's? 180.48 download size is twice as big as 180.70's. I'm thinking to go with the 180.70's. Just want to make sure here first.

No way to know how it will behave on your system, but generally, newer drivers bring more performance, so I would start with the .70 ones.

180.42 gave me a huge boost over all the ones I used before, includin 178.24 .

179.14 is better than all other new drivers (178.xx & 180.xx) but the new one 180.70 very good too

I'm currently using 180.44. I tried both 180.48 and 180.70 today. Neither one gave me nvidia control panel shell extensions. Neither one installed Physx software either. Have gone back to 180.44. Hopefully there will be some more feedback soon. 180.48 is supposed to have some great performance improvements for numerous games... 38% increase in far cry 2!

On XP x64 the 180.60 beta cuda 2.1 driver is working very well, more stable and better performance than 180.48 WHQL. Huge diference on Need for Speed Undercover, very smooth, no FPS spikes like on previous versions.

You can get the 180.60 version here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html

Not all drivers are supposed to contain physx installers. (usually only a few releases have it included)
If a driver doesn't have it, just get the latest version from nvidia. (or LV2GO)

Thats good to know. Thank you. Do you know why the nvidia control panel shell extension didn't show up in the desktop right-click menu? This happened with both 180.48 and 180.70. I did driver cleaner in safe-mode and Ccleaner as well. Not sure if Ccleaner might have caused the problem.

Maybe it's Dox's drivers. He tweaks his. The other drivers just alter the inf I think.

frag100 control panel shell extension can be delete by these programs that you use for cleanup after remove the drivers because that what i did after few days ago but you really dont need this because you can use nVIDIA control panel from widnwos control panel and you can make desktop shortcut if you want : :)

I mustered up some strength and ran a few bench's... The tests use FarCry 2's benchmark utility(the 180.48's boasted a 38% performance gain in FC2 so I went with that game). "Ranch Long" ran @ 1680x1050, ultra high settings, AA off, Dx10, nothing OC'd.

btw... The FC2 benchmark utility wouldn't run using the 179.14 drivers... ???

    180.44
    ------
Total Frames: 15748, Total Time: 284.01s
    Average Framerate: 55.45
    Max. Framerate: 87.04 (Frame:1073, 16.58s)
    Min. Framerate: 19.77 (Frame:2034, 29.74s)

    180.48

Total Frames: 15906, Total Time: 284.01s
    Average Framerate: 56.01
    Max. Framerate: 87.04 (Frame:1071, 16.58s)
    Min. Framerate: 15.65 (Frame:2029, 29.76s)

    180.60

Total Frames: 15935, Total Time: 284.01s
    Average Framerate: 56.11
    Max. Framerate: 87.09 (Frame:1074, 16.57s)
    Min. Framerate: 26.18 (Frame:2043, 29.73s)

    180.70

    Max. Framerate: 87.08 (Frame:1070, 16.58s)
    Min. Framerate: 35.74 (Frame:7134, 124.56s)

On my system, the 180.70 edges out the others. Barely a frame apart on all tests.

Your max and average frame rate is hardly higher with the 180.77, but your minimum frame rate is substantially higher. In this particular test, the 180.77 is the winner hands down.

turn off software that you don't need running in the back ground like anti virus or spyware protection. you only need those if your surfing dirty places.

I can't find much difference between 180.48 and 180.70, but i did see substantial increase in performance from 179.13 to 180.70. In Left 4 Dead, I gained up to 10 fps in some areas after comparing both drivers together.

If only performance increase exponentially with each newer driver release lol

People with different hardware, different software, and different cards will see differences in how well each driver performs.

If you really want to best drivers, find what people with similar systems to your own are saying about performance in the games/benchmarks you care about, and then try out the 2 or 3 drivers that seem to be doing the best.

Ya, No Sh*t! FC2 runs great! Those scores represent only one pass per test. I was expecting the scores to reflect a bigger difference in performance between them as opposed to a full-blown driver shootout. Although the min. frames reflect the biggest difference(not sure if the diff equals 38%), I'm not sure what nvidia was referring to when they said a "38% increase in FC2". I kinda answered my own question though... The 180.70's are the perferred choice for my system.

You can't use Dox's tweeks with 180.70's? Hmm... I haven't messed with those yet. I thought it was just a matter of switching from the LV2GO modded .inf to Dox's tweeked .inf

Tried the 180.70, pretty much on par with the other 180.xx's in far cry 2 bench tool. Nothing really of difference, noteworthy.

edit. On a side not the image quality is far superior in Dox's inf, so i might switch back to those, especially since they are tweaked for clevo machines (8800,9800 series cards).

DAAANG! Dox is the MAN! Whatever he did to his drivers, I like! Just might for-go a few frames for the great textures. I'm still having issues with L4D. Keeps crashing to desktop. Turned off AA and tuned down shaders... runs better now. Similar fix to COD5 AA/Dual video card issue. Yet COD4 with AA and dual cards enabled runs awesome.

ok, well for what its worth to those that have an 8800m and up, i have ran many benches/ in game fps with far cry 2, cod4/waw, crysis/warhead, fallout 3, l4d. The best drivers with by far superior image quality is dox's 180.44.

Doesn't seem like its worth modding any of the new 180.60/70?
I'll test later this week and dig into them to see what I'll find.

Might take a while though :)

Both of these driver have sleep issues with XPS1530.
Good performance in cod:waw, but somewhat unstable, by that I mean that the screen occationally freezes, for a fraction of a second when I play online.
Left for dead won't work with these either.
    Have gone back to 179.14.

Yes DOX please mod 180.70. The driver has great performance in all my games. If you include that texture mod with the 180.70, it will be the best driver combination ever. PLease make it DOX.

when you say all of your games does that mean Crysis and Warhead ? Dox just cant Mod any driver out there, the modded drivers should be strong Candidates, and the .60/.70 drivers still have many application problems.. if i were Dox, i might wait a little bit for a better driver to come out.

If new drivers will come out in a matter of days, then perhaps we should wait to see if those will show a further improvement or a setback.

Dox shouldn't modify the unstable (for some) drivers after all, and besides, he's doing this on his own accord.
So we have to make sure which driver version is worth investing into.

    hey brainer and Deks.

I know what you are saying :)
I have the same philoshy in chossing which drivers to mod.
Sometime's I like to mod drivers which interests me (maybe others) such as 180.43 and 180.44 (180.43 because Big Bang II Beta and 180.44 to test out some new stuff - installer, high quality texture tweaks, desktop support etc)

I'll mod the 180.7/60 for private use and to test some new stuff.
    If I like what I see i'll release the, .6/70 :)

I'll definitely wait for DOX's drivers. I tried the 180.70 and xfastest 180.70. 180.70 werent better than the 180.48 but xfastest 180.70 gave me higher FPS in games and a higher 3dmark score.

I like seeing these driver threads because I can read up on some feedback before trying them out. Here's my experience with the 180.48 drivers:

The drivers seemed very stable (they didn't blue screen :p ), but would not save my default monitor as my external monitor. Also they disabled my overclocking for some reason. I could not overclock at all.

I decided to give 180.70 a try. Seemed great, but my digital vibrance was not working. Ugh

Oh well, back to my tried and true Extreme G 94.20 drivers. I really want to find some updated drivers but there is always some quirck with every new driver I install.
