    Hi all.

I've recently built a pc up from parts I had left over from ugrading other machines for friends and family and I'm going to use it for some gaming.

I'm looking for any recommendations for a post apocalyptic type game where you can get immersed in another world and waste away hours actually doing stuff - not just blasting everything that moves!

The pc is running a clean install of Windows 10 on a 128GB SSD with 2 other SSDs of the same size and a 1TB WD Black hard drive for data storage and 8GB Ram. The graphics card is a Radeon HD 7770 with 2GB Ram - so hopefully it will be up to the job!

I appreciate any recommendations you might have, I've not done any gaming for a few years now and totally out of touch with whats good to play these days.

    Cheers :)

Fallout New Vegas with mods, Fallout 1/2 if you don't mind older games, Wasteland 2.
Also Metro Redux games. They are shorter compared to other games on the list, but are rather immersive.

Mad Max is a fun driving, shooting, exploring post-apocalyptic free for all game too. Also Borderlands is somewhat similar too.

    Completely forgot about this one.
I agree, it has some nice driving and exploration mechanics, though can become repetitive after a while.

You might be able to pull off Fallout 4 on low details.

Cheers for the replies all, very helpful. I've been looking at videos of the gameplay of the games you suggested and they all look pretty good. I've not played any games since EverQuest (!!!) due to work and home commitments but I've got some more time free now so I was to get back into gaming. Just don't tell my wife OK? :p

I've set the pc up and about to do some video benchmarks to see if the graphics cards any good.

    *Update*.

Just ran a benchmark on the machine and I think the card needs updating if I'm going to play any modern games. Not bad otherwise for a machine I've made from old bits!

    UserBenchmarks: Desk 66%, Game 29%, Work 36%
    CPU: Intel Core i5-3550 - 77.8%
    GPU: AMD HD 7770 - 22.8%
    SSD: Crucial M4 128GB - 60.7%
    SSD: Crucial M500 120GB - 52.1%
    SSD: Crucial M4 128GB - 52.7%
    HDD: WD Black 1TB (2010) - 73.7%
    RAM: Crucial CT51264BA160B.C16F 2x4GB - 62%
    MBD: Asus P8H77-M

if you're getting Mad Max then get it from Humble monthly bundle. Only $12, not to mention you're gonna get more games in May.

I don't know any post apocalyptic game so, well, maybe Ori and the Blind Forest could count.

I personally wouldn't bother with F4. NV will be able to run better and with mods to boot, which will look better than F4 on low.
And of course story and quests are way better in NV than in F4, not to mention the whole RPG thing.

Fallout New Vegas Ultimate for the PC is in my Amazon basket and is £9.99 so that's one to get me started.

I'll give that a try and meanwhile look at a graphics card upgrade as the card I have seems to be a bit naff!

Would I be better to go for an AMD card Vs NVidia as it seems from the reviews the NVidias are having driver troubles?

Anyways, thanks for the replies all, I've been looking at some of the other games suggested - some gamers have posted videos of their gameplay which was quite interesting and are on my wish lists. :)

Depends on your budget. If you can go all out I say wait...we are on the cusp of a major graphics advancement. If you can't, I say go Fury X as a nice "f u " to nVidia. Fury X is a remarkable card in its own right. nVidia is not the company to support at this time

I'll hold off for now then if we are on the cusp of a major announcement. I can borrow a friends spare GTX 960 Strix for a while and save for an all out replacement. Thanks for the advice :)

Definitely do that. 960 should do fine until Polaris/Pascal is here. In the mean time you will be able to save up some cash for a new GPU.

    Hi there @killkenny1

I had to pop on here to say a big thank you for recommending Fallout New Vegas, it arrived this morning and I absolutely love it! I fitted the 960, updated the game and have been on it all day so far and it is really - really good. There is so much to do, and I have so much to learn it seems!

The main thing I've learnt today is to disarm myself when going in to talk to main characters in the game, its all too easy to accidentally shoot someone when trying to talk to them! The 960 is also working really well - I was a bit worried how it would perform after reading some of the posts here lately and the issues with drivers.

    Anyhow, thanks again :)

Fallout NV is one of the best fallout ever. IMO much better than FO4, I really didnt enjoy FO4 with some their new elements.

The whole things feels more like a MMO than a Fallout.

He definitely could. I recommended it in one of my posts as well.
Few months ago I played FO1 and it still holds up nicely.
