I've played each of these probably a good 12-15 hours into each of them, just never finished them for some reason or another. I unfortunately don't have the save games so will have to start over. But that's fine.
My first inkling is to go with Fallout 3 because of the "Mothership Zeta" add-on looks pretty cool. But then again each have their own appeal.
Fallout 3
Mass Effect
STALKER Clear Sky (pseudo RPG)
The Witcher
-
My vote goes to Fallout 3, I did every quest/mission and still couldn't get enough. I would like to get into the DLCs when I get some extra time.
Some people love it, or hate it. One tip I can offer is to turn down the difficulty, only for the headshots to be realistic, this made the game much more exciting imo. One of my biggest beefs with the game, was shooting someone point blank in the head, and they keep coming!
And be Evil! much more fun
Anyways, /vote Fallout3! -
I voted Fallout 3 because I love the bloody mess perk.
-
I voted Other because i finished all 4 but STALKER , and none beats Final Fantasy 8 final =)
-
Buy Oblivion; you will not be disappointed.
Failing that, Fallout 3 because it's Oblivion with guns. -
I already wasted a good 40 hours with Oblivion... thanks.
-
mass effect without a doubt. it is the best game ive ever played.
-
Another vote for Mass Effect
-
f3 and ME are great.
If you play F3 make sure you get Broken Steel to raise the level cap. -
Mass Effect is a great game. Awesome visuals, deep-rich story line, and fun game play.
-
Go with Mass Effect, if you played for 12-15 hours I am sure you were quite by 3/5 of the game. It gets much better by the ending.

interestingly enough Fallout 3 and mass effect were two of the greatest games i ever played(Though i felt Mass Effect was better) I voted mass Effect.
Still havent picked up the witcher but could it hold a candle to these two? -

Mass Effect!
-
1 of 3 votes for the Witcher, then again I've not played the other more popular choices on the poll.
-
I have to agree with some of the others Mass Effect...pure class, i liked fallout 3 but it got alittle easy, id did a heap of the side quests and by the time i got to the main story it wasnt really very challanging, mass effect has a fantastic story....and the battles do enough to keep you interested as you know.
-
The witcher hands down for me, didn't really like the hybrid combat system presented by both mass effect and fallout 3, always found it weird when a headshot barely registers as a one.
-
I really like Mass Effect, Fallout just got boring for me. But the new DLC does look sweet.
-
From the list, Fallout 3.
Or ES IV: Oblivion -
Both Fallout 3 & Mass Effect. Fallout 3 because...it's Fallout. Mass Effect because it's a great story and has great characters and not to mention Mass Effect 2 looks to be awesome!
-
-
Fallout 3. I'm on my second time around now. This time I've found tons more quests than I even knew existed the last time I played it.
-
I'd go with Mass Effect. Just top notch in every aspect. Cant really go wrong when Bioware is behind the wheel.
I stopped playing Fallout 3 after a bit. I only did the 1st DLC, Operation Anchorage. Once I got the Chinese Stealth Armor and the plasma rifle, it was easy mode the whole time. I think I'm only 1 or 2 quests into the main story line but I know I'll go back to it eventually. I got sucked into America's Army 3. -
Regardless of the combat system, the story is great in that you make it through your decisions which go a long way and the shades of grey which permeate the game aren't as easy to see in other games. -
Fallout 3, amazingness, then ME
-
Mass Effect. Hands down one of the best games I've ever played.
-
Go old school and play some FFVII =D
-
I'm not much of a FF player.

I got the bloody mess perk a couple levels back and I love it lol, it's so brutal watching people's limbs completely blow apart, especially in VATS mode, you see the limbs slowing spinning and expanding outwards like in zero gravity or something, I started both FO3 and ME, ME sucked me in more and I ended up finishing that, still working on FO3 now, loving both games in their own way, ME has a better story, but I like the gameplay and combat of FO3 better (started exploding people's pants recently too, fun! and I'm gonna try out the cannibal and mr. sandman perk)
ultimately, i'll vote ME since I haven't finished FO3 yet and also enjoyed ME's story and characters -

^^^^ Yeah, this is what i was talking about..
They also were trying to bring Witcher to Consoles but i dont know how that worked out. -
Console version of the Witcher suspended for now (yay) in favour of concentrating on the Witcher 2.
-
I.E. In vats, I concentrate on one limb, say right leg, until all their hits points are gone and they die, in splendid slo-mo, but WTH, why is their head flying off thier body, all I did was shoot their leg !
Played all the rpg's listed here and The Witcher is far better than the others , with Stalker Cear Sky in 2nd, even though I prefered Stalker SOC ! -

I have stalker i bought it and i barely played it. I was a little man therew was no 360 controller support. The game had good ambience though you felt like you were in that world maybe i should finish it up soon.
-
Played all four of them. I think you should start with Mass Effect first since it's a fairly straightforward game to play. Leave the moments of screen-punching for after.
-
Mass Effect is the best. I have them all, and Mass Effect (to me) is clearly the best RPG

Gotta say Witcher/Mass Effect out of the choices. Both are brilliant games, although both very different. Fallout 3 and Stalker are good, but in a slightly different league. Witcher Enhanced Edition is also a major improvement over the original IMO, and is much better from a technical and playable standpoint.
Dependant on what you enjoy, Witcher is a very traditional, but very good Fantasy RPG, which isn't afraid to be a little more grisly and less 'cuddle-bunny' than a lot of fantasy titles [What other fantasy game you've played beyond possibly the Forgotten Realm titles/Overlord would have a dwarf discussing what he *did* with a she elf], plus it has a wonderful 'shades of grey' reputation system rather than the overt good or bad of most titles. Mass Effect on the other hand is a Sci-Fi FPS/RPG hybrid, in a similar vein to the STALKER games, or even Deus Ex to some extent, and is exceptionally well put together; it has it's flaws, particularly it feels like a game cut short part way through making to make a trilogy (which it was IIRC) and also the side missions become repetetive; but overall well worth telling with an interesting main story, good graphics and decent gameplay.
The US Witcher mature edition patch to bring the US edition to the greatness of the EU version has been released now IIRC, its also a game where potions and magic can make a great deal of difference, especially on harder difficulty, which is not something that can be said for a lot of fantasy where they're completely optional.
Fallout 3 is good, but its really a lil overrated IMO, it won't stand out as an all time great, and STALKER SoC is a better gamer than Clear Skies, Witcher on the other hand is probably the best Fantasy RPG designed for the PC since the days of BG and Mass Effect probably one of the best Sci-Fi since the likes of SS1/2, although Im sure Im forgetting some when it comes to Sci-Fi.
You tend to find that whilst Fallout 3 tends to be the standout game for action gamers; or people who enjoyed oblivion, the majority of serious RPG gamers prefered the story (one of the most important things) of Witcher/Mass Effect more. The main story in F3 is dissapointing to be honest; coming from someone old enough to play the originals; and has similar issues to Oblivion [short main quest with a slightly retarded twist or two; pointless side quests, big world thats surprisingly empty, it's nicknamed 'Oblivion with Guns' for a reason]. -
Mass effect was amazing. Currently playing again, this time making more evil choices punching the news lady, the crazy guy in the beginning, etc.
Sad thing about the elevators though they make me go to sleep.
Mass Effect 2 is going to be freaking awesome though, Suposedly is coming out December 31!!
I liked a lot Fallout 3, but my vote is still for Mass Effect.
I have been looking at The Witcher. I have heard mixed opinions, is it like Oblivion? -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Nothing like Oblivion. It's a focused; single player story set inside a large city and a few nearby areas; on the other hand Oblivion is a sandbox RPG, with an open world, and a weak main story. Witcher is all about the main story, and where it takes the player character. Witcher is much closer to the likes of a more compact; gritty Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights in it's style; as you follow the story you move to new areas.
