Hi, I was thinking of buying a HP dv200t with Nvidia Geforce Go 7200, but I dont know if I will be able to play games on it. Will it be able to run newer games like bf2, cod2, oblivion, AOE3 on LOWEST graphic-settings and resolution without lagging??

This laptop is so darn nice-looking, but i'm afraid not being able play on it :)
please help me those who owns this laptop or have experiences with it!

It will be able to play most of those games you listed only if its on the lowest settings .... but to me it sounds like you should fight the urge of spending money on a "pretty" machine and get something with a little more graphics power to satisfy you.

If you go with that HP I have a feeling there would always be that thought in the back of your mind that you wish it had more graphics power. Take a look at maybe the Dell XPS m1210 if you want a powerful compact setup. That or the Compal HGL30.

You won't want to game in an 12 inch notebook

To answer your question, yes, those games will run on lowest settings fine. They really will look terrible though, so be warned. I know most people aren't looking to be blinded by their laptop performance anyway, but really, low-midrange should really be the lowest anyone should aim for in performance if they do plan doing any gaming. I'm using a 7400 myself; yes, its basic and its cheap, but it gets the job done at reasonably ok settings with most games.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but im in the exact same situation and instead of making a new thread, the search button came in handy.

Gaming wise, I only play sports games currently the run on a GMA900 but pretty brutal: Madden 07, and NHL 07. Do you think this will be an improvement?

So im about this buy this notebook, for $1100usd shipped...do you think this is a good price for the following specs:
    Operating System

    Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5200(1.66GHz/2MB L2Cache)

    Graphics Card
    128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200

    Memory
    2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

    Hard Drive
    120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

    Primary CD/DVD
    DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive

    Networking
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth

Yeah, Madden and NHL are always fairly hardware friendly so you will notice a good improvement over the GMA in those games. You'd notice the difference in any game though really, even though the 7200 is really low end, it's imcomparably superior to the Intel.

does the core 2 duo 1.6 make a difference in gaming performance, compared to the pentium m 1.6 i have

It will make a difference. How much of a difference really depends on how processor-dependent the game is. Newer games like Supreme Commander take great advantage of higher clock speeds and multiple cores.

It will not make a difference in Madden or NHL though. At the moment, few games are dual core optimised.

However even running as a single processor the core 2 has superior processing ability than the pentium m 1.6, perhaps 10-15% better. Whether the game will benefit from this or not is another matter, usually it is the GPU that is the main limiting factor.

    1. You need an external display
    2. It bottlenecked by the expresscard port
    3. Its $600 for the one with the 7900GS.

    Also:
    4) It supposedly will not be available via retail channels.

    But:
    1) It *supposedly* will offer the power roughly equivalent to the X1600 or 7600...which is a lot better than any integrated card.

    This makes an interesting read

    http://vr-zone.com/?i=4728&s=1

    Especially the "What's next" part

This was featured at the Asus roadshow and it was reported it will be priced around $400 with the EN7900GS graphics card.

that thing is going to be a bust, how many people really want an external display and limited capabilities for such a price tag...(N)

anyways, moving on anyone else have any imput. I think i've pretty satisfied with my decision based on my needs

Counter Strike will run fine, yes, FEAR however....it will work, but I can only imagine at terrible settings. But yes, they'd both technically work, and run smoothly with accorded settings.

Many , many thanks for answering .
