I'm just wondering because they are both compatible for dx10 so I was wondering which was faster?
 I'm not that smart with laptops. :/ but I'm trying to learn.

No, the GT is better than the GTS.

    GTX>GT>GTS

Search on google. Toms hardware and anandtech both confirm this

Um, there is no 8800m GT. The OP mentioned laptops. Currently, there only 8800 mobile cards are the 8800m GTS and 8800m GTX.

There is an 8800 GT desktop card which is more powerful than then 8800 GTS desktop card if that's what you're referring to.

    ... eh?

The GTS is the higher-end option of the two. Why's everyone saying that the GT is better than the GTS? Am I missing something here?

That article compares the 512MB G92 8800GT to the 320MB G90 8800 GTS. The 320 and 640 MB 8800 GTS are not even being manufactured anymore. I was referring to the 512MB 8800 GTS versus the 512MB 8800 GT. It only seems logical to consider the G92 GTS, as opposed to the G90 one.

yeah I am referring to a desktop. I just wanted to know in general, as I know laptops either have gts or gtx, but oh well.

But both the gateway laptop has gts and the gateway desktop that I'm looking at have the 8800 thats why I was wondering.

There is an 8800M GTS and a 8800M GTX for laptops and if I am not mistaken the GTX would be the better model but I think the only difference is the amount of stream processors 96 in the GTX model and 64 in the GTS model. My system has the 8800M GTS processor and it works perfectly fine for gaming.

    This is the correct order.

    Already been stated :)

It may not be manufactured, but it's still available for purchase. Therefore it's useful to know how it compares to other cards.

    No, just clarifying things.

Also, new members may not be aware of all the different forums and where to post certain questions, so I try to help them out by showing there what would be the appropriate forum instead of bashing them for being stupid and "oh how silly of you", etc. I'm not trying to act like a mod, I'm simply trying to help.

Heh. I'm not entirely sure why anyone would still want a 320MB GTS, though... For about $40, you can get a much better deal (IMO) in the form of the 512MB 8800GT.

I agree, but many people don't know that the 8800 GT will perform better than the 320MB 8800 GTS. Even on nvidia's website it's listed in the order of GTX>GTS>GT.

I say, wouldn`t it be fair to add the Ati cards here also ? since you guys went way off topic from the original 88 GT and GTS ,might as well say that the 3870 is the same if not better than the GT, bla bla..

Well, the OP was asking between the GT and GTS because of 2 desktops he was considering to buy. Since there is more than one version of the GTS, we were clarifying which one is better than the GT and which one is worse than the GT.
