I know the graphics are so much better in Half Life 2 and Valve have refined their physics so much more but I much prefer the storyline and plot of source - what do you think?

I hate both of them (let the flaming begin lol)

I cannot stand something with stupid monsters, they ruin the gameplay for me. Half life and Half life 2 would have been so much better for me if they didn't include the monster business.

Same thing with FarCry, that game rocked everything was beautiful and the gameplay was awesome...up until those stupid monsters started showing up

You mean Halflife. Halflife: Source is the crappy Source port of the game. The storyline and plot is from the original Halflife.

I like both games a lot. I think they're fairly different, so I'm not sure if I can even compare them fairly. If I had to pick one of them, it'd *probably* be the first one. Probably.

Half-Life 2 was a great game. I definitely have more experience playing HL2 than the original HL, because HL2 has more acceptable graphics (I hate seeing 1900's era graphics, except for maybe Starcraft). Both games have really good plots, though, and gameplay, as expected, is superb.

definitely HL2, just because of the fact that everybody doesn't look the same...

Half Life 2 of course. Theres a HL1 remake coming out using the Source engine and its called Black Mesa Source.

Too bad its only 50% done... The detail in this mod looks amazing... it looks a lot better than HL2. IMO

Half Life, but that may be because I played it when it first came out, and it was so revolutionary at the time with physics, story, and story integration (with scripted sequences). While everything else was shoot, kill, get key, open door; Half Life had you sneaking past sound sensitive Hydras, calling in airstrikes, and restoring power to kill a seemingly invincible creature.

But, if I hadn't played Half Life until recently... I don't know. Even if the graphics were equal, HL2 has a very appealing story. I don't know if it would be as appealing without the history, though...

haha yeh I find that hilarious. Half life 2 is so much more advanced that half life, I mean just look at the way the charactes have expression in thier faces compared to the crappy picture of some guy molded onto a model, (Thats what half life 1 characters look like)

obviously technology has come a long way since hl1. he is asking which is a better game.

dont make the argument that "Transformers: The Game" is better than the original ravenshield, just because it has newer tech behind it.

    consider the game itself.

You cant compare the graphics between the games, thats like asking which system you like better, a high end 10 year old system, or a brand new high end system. In its day half life was the game to beat, it shattered the mold and set a new standard, half life 2 while a great game, wasnt near as revolutionary as the first, it did break new ground graphically speaking, , but thats about all.

HL was paced in a way kept me captivated until the end of chapter 3. After that, it was a bore.

HL2 is paced in a way that kept me captivated from beginning to end.

There's no comparison: HL2 is leagues above HL in my book, and no, it's not because of better graphics. It is primarily because of the pacing of the game.

half life and half life: 2 have to be two of my favorite games ever, but I either have more nostalgia for half life or I could just like it better as a game...can't really tell.

I voted Source because I hope you mean the original storyline, not just the gfx improvement version. They are both amazing games but I can never get tired of re playing the original.

I have to say the original Half-Life just for its initial impact...something seemed different about Half-Life 2 when eagerly awaited for. Both have fantastic stories, but to me Half-Life (and HL: Source) take the cake.

Graphically, Half-Life 2 is obviously much more impressive. Even in the Source engine Half-Life still looks weak...what really promises to be a faithful treatment of Half-Life with better technology is the Black Mesa total conversion.

originall HL because it was more ground breaking at the time of its launch where HL2 is the next stage in evolution when compared to the original.

I picked Half-Life for the simple reason that, at the time, it was so revolutionary and different from anything else I'd ever played.

Oh wow, that's the first I've seen of that. Now I'm excited. :D

I played the original HL all the way through probably about a dozen times. Being a young teen when it first came out, the story was so involving.

My meager laptop can handle HL2 enough to make it playable, and I've enjoyed the game a good bit. I wish I had a nicer system for it, but that comes later this summer when I get a new laptop.

I never even played HL1 until I beat HL2 about 50 times and HL2 episode 1, so my opinion is HL2, mainly because I love what the modding community did to a great game and engine. And I also like modding it myself, I've never seen a game that's so easy to mod EVERYTHING in it, and I really do mean that.

Just so you know, modability is another place HL1 broke ground ;)
