    I have a m17x r2 that currently has;
    1.8ghz to 2.8
    8gb ram and xfire 5870's

    I am getting a r3 exchange that has;

    2720QM 2.2GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (2DIMMS)
    Single 6970 or 6990m 2gb
    1.5 raid 0

    How will this compare moving from the dual to the single card in Flight simulator x? I am disappointed with the current quality since I only get 25-30fps over cities. I am hoping the faster processor will help. I also hope to play MW3 when it comes out so I hope the replacement system will at least be able to play it.

    Do you use any add-ons? My sys in signature gets dunno pretty much same FPS as yours, sometimes it drops to 18 FPS at big airports like Heathrow, but in game like FSX smoothness is really what matters. Powerful GPU won't give you much, but fast HDD I think would be good if you got lots of add-ons. And of course quad core, but you got that covered.

    the R3 is better, a single 6990 is better than even 2 5870's. Make sure you get the 6990m

    It came with a 6970 and the performance was sub-par. They sent me a 580m and I swapped it and gained some fps, it now runs relatively smoothly at 35-40fps in snowy weather at JFK at 16x Ansio 1920x1080.

    Get the fastest quad core cpu you can for FSX, its a cpu demanding game more so than GPU demanding.
