    The HP Pavilion.

The Compaq has an Intel GMA 950 GPU, which sucks for gaming.

While the HP Pavillion has a Radeon Xpress 200m which is much better.

Although not the best, it should handle Wow fine, plus the machine has better specs overall. :)

Not the GMA 950 too well.

Plus the other one has better specs anyways.

YEs, but he asked which was better of the two, not which can play it.

Either way I wouldn't get either of them as you can get much better deals elsewhere. Perhaps if you filled out the FAQ we could assist you in finding something that fulfills your needs.

If hes just gonna play Wow the HP Pavillion is fine, and apparently not too expensive, he/she should go for it IMO, unless he plans on playing other games.

Take a look at the E1505 with a x1400 from Dell for under $1000 .. probally the best performance and reliability combination for under $1000. Jump to $1100 and you get the Acer AS5672WLMi which is the best performance for the money but has some cooling issues which many people on these forums have reported on. Both laptops are on the most favorite laptops of August 06 thread just posted on the frost page here. E1505 was #2, Acer 5672 was #6. Lots of people interested in both of these models.

After looking at your filled out FAQ there are a number of options you could go for.

    14" options:
Compal HGL-30 or any of its various rebrandings.

    15.4" options:
    ASUS S96j/possibly z96j.
Compal HEL-80 or any of its rebrandings.
    Dell Inspiron E1505
    Alienware Area-51 M5550

The Compals and ASUS will offer the best bang for your buck because the more powerful GPU come standard in those, whereas the Dell and Alienware require upgrades for them to be on par with the others. However good deals can be found if you look hard enough so that may not be entirely true.

I'd take a look at www.powernotebooks.com to see if you like anything there, they have the various rebrandings of the S96j, HGL-30 and HEL-80 on their site for reasonable prices and from all I've seen and experienced very nice people willing to help work there.
