    Which laptops come with the Hi-end video cards?

    Excellent sticky on the mobile video cards! I would like my new 15.4' laptop to have a high-end video card, something in the class of the nVidia 7600 series.

    So far, only Toshiba A135 carrys this card. How do I find out what other laptops carry these high end cards? I have spent hours look at dells/gateways/and whatever, most only carry the midranged cards mentioned in the sticky.

    u should check out sager. i hear they have excellent build quality. and they offer just about every current Nvidia GPU. just depends on what screen size u want. u can look up alienwares M5500 series but i think thats a 17" notebook. im not quite sure. :D

    Hey the Inspiron E1505 isnt bad (its great) it has an ATI X1400 or an X1300, and if you want more, then the 17" has an Nvidia 7900 GTX i believe (dont hold me too that one)

    But the x1600/7600/x1700/7700 are twice as powerful as the X1400 and will be needed to future proof your notebook as best as possible.

    the x1600 is twice as powerful? are you sure about that? Maybe the X1950, well deffinently the X1950 but not so sure on that x1600

    Hey guys thanks for all your responses.
    Yeah, I think its worth it to pay a premium just to "future proof" my new and first laptop. However, I just hope this premium isnt too substantial. I am really sad that there are no direct x10 laptops out currnetly. I heard it comes out closer towards the end of this year and I need this laptop by june.

    Well there is only a few Direct X10 (powerful) desktop graphics cards available anyway, let alone mobile cards, its not surprising that mobile dx10 isn't out yet...

    Santa Rosa is coming out soon, and when that comes out DX10 mobile cards like the 8600 GOs; they are slated for release on April 17th, but this could change. I can't really tell you how soon laptops that incorporates these cards will come out, so I would wait and see what's up. My guess is that 2 months+ of time should be enough to have a laptop released with these cards, but I'm no expert.

    Probably between 1.5-2.0 but regardless x1600/7600 is where you want to be to futureproof your laptop. Heh I have an x1400 and I admit you need more to play latest games with settings that still make it look good @ 1024x768 resolution.

    Im fine on C&C3, LOTR: Online, Stalker, and Heroes V all med-high @ WXGA+ resolution but games like Sup Com and F.E.A.R have to be turned down more than i'd like to run properly. Crysis will bury me (and probably x1600/7600) in a hole.

    I read on some game preview site that they were playing a Crysis level at 1920x1200 resolution and only 'High' settings with an 8800GTX .. only averaging 30 FPS. Making it 3 times harder to run than FEAR, lol!

    Actually he's being quite generous to the X1400 when he only says "twice as powerful".

    Benches will also show a difference between the two which could be summed up in the words "twice as powerful". A quick and dirty example would be 3dMark05 sample scores between the two Mobility Radeons.

    well for the purposed of my reply, i wanted something with the 7600 class. SOmething higher than the midranged x1400, but lower than those crazy power hungry ones.

    x1600/x1700: hp nc8430, asus z96j, asus f3jp/a8jp, asus v1j, lg s1, asus w3j

    ...and you really believe 15,4" laptops have these cards..?(OP) :rolleyes: Sure, they can be installed on some 15,4 laptops but there's some of risks involved. The cards are also expensive and hard to find. Currently I know only one who's selling them: Ice Tea.
