Which laptops have the GDDR5 version of the GT 640m? Is there a list of such laptops out somewhere? It would suit me even better if the screen is less than 15" and build quality is premium (although neither is a requirement). Money not an issue.

I was initially looking for 14" laptops with 650m - the only two I found were the Alienware 14 (can't have a laptop which looks like that) and the HP dv4t (okay, but I'm looking for alternatives). I've heard that the GDDR5 640m is very close in performance to the 650m (or can be overclocked to such levels), hence this question.

Not interested in laptops with 640m LE or GDDR3 640m.

AFAIK there is only the m14x in the 14'' size, not that the m14x is real 14'', with 3kg of weight there is something really wrong with that.

it appears that you also should take a look at the gigabyte offerings.

The RMBP is the lightest notebook that offers the gddr5 version of the kepler mid range gpus, be whatever size that you want

btw the dell xps line up has some serious throttling issues.

Thanks, I'm not too keen on the Dell XPS 15 - firstly because it's 15.6" and I'd prefer a 14" - and also because of the throttling issues.

I shouldn't have said that money is no object - I can't afford the retina MBP. And that's 15.6" anyway.

Gigabyte - that sounds interesting. Are you referring to the U2442N ultrabook? That has a 640m... but how do I know if it's a GDDR3 or GDDR5 chip?

It appears that Samsung series 7 15" laptops also have the GDDR5 640m. Is this true?

Confirmed. The 640m LE in the Sony S15 is DDR3, and the 640m in the Samsung NP700Z5C is GDDR5:
