i'm sorry my terrible english skill.~
Now, i use HP DV4000 CTO ( M740 , 1GB ,x700with 128MB)
I also have Acer Aspire ( Duo 1.66, 1GB, x1400 with 128MB)
Which one is better?
I think X700's 3d MARK is around 2500.
and X1400's 3d mark is around 1500~2000.
So, I think, you guys said X1400 is better than X700.
So, I decided I use X700. But... I saw some man's stroy in Korean game site
.
He said, He use Dual core cpu. and He just play the Quake4. Frame is 20~30.
but. He patched the game(I think That patch made game support Dual CPU)
Frame is always over 60frames![]()
can Acer Laptop Upgrade Graphic card?
I saw some guy upgrade Dell graphic card!~~
have a good time!
-
You can't upgrade the graphic card in the Acer, only selected brands and models can.
Dell can usually upgrade, but its selected and limited. -
Yeah, a few games have patches for dual cores now, and I have heard they do have amazing results. As coriolis said though, you are stuck with that card in the Acer, so it's a tough decision on which is better. If you really want to game, stick with the HP, as few games support dual core anyway. But all around I think the Acer is a better computer, it just lacks a little more in the gamning

The Dual-core patches really work well. I enabled it on my Athlon 64 FX-60 + 7800GTX system I'm testing right now, there's a HUGE performance difference. It is immediately noticable.
Same goes for my desktop, which has a Pentium 4 3.2GHz with HT. Using HT in Call of Duty 2 and Quake 4 gives 25% more performance. The boost is much higher on a dual-core system, around 80% according to what the patch description says.
Unless you're going to be playing multi-threaded games all the time (Quake 4 and CoD 2 are the only ones right now), then I'd go for the dv4000, the 3D performance will be much stronger. -
yes, dual core is a very good thing to have, but most games out right now do not optimize dual core capability. however, there will be more games coming out that will fully utilize dual core, and i believe most games that are out now will make a patch to use dual core. do not forget, that any game that has a problem with dual core (stuttering/fps issues etc...) you can always adjust the affinity (setting which core to run on) by CTRL+ALT+DEL , clicking PROCESSES, go to whatever process you are running, right click, click on affinity, and pick which core you want..(usually core 0 is the stronger core, core 1 being the weaker one...althought that is not always the case)
also remember this...some computers are MXM or AXIOM...they allow the GPU to be changed, to one ofthe same range (MXM1 to MXM1, MXM2 to MXM2 etc...), BUT finding another gpu might be very difficult. (depends on the company)
--chaz..how do you like the fx-60 2.6ghz dual core.(reminds me...i have to O/C my opty 170.hehehe)

The FX-60 . . . it is absolutely insane. Got 1,943 in 3DMark06's CPU test. That's about three times as fast as my desktop Pentium 4 3.2GHz w/HT (NW core).
Gaming is seamless, as is multitasking. Converting a file (converting video, etc.) while gaming - you don't even know it is encoding in the background.
Money CAN buy anything.
-
do you set the affinity for multitasking or do you let everything use both cores?
i have to check what i get in 3dmark06's CPU test..it may be time for me to unleash the beast (by overclocking it..my particular stepping can hit up to 2.8ghz..hmmm goodness). also..did you take the top off?

It is multithreaded by default, so it uses both cores to their full potential.
If you mean by take the top off have I opened up the laptop to peek inside - not yet, but I will.
You'll see in the review in two weeks.

You have both???? Jeez man, you must have a lot of spending money laying around. Both are great laptops. Wanna gimme one of 'em just for fun? Haha
You can't upgrade your Acer. Usually boutique laptops offer upgradability like Chazman's Sager.
cheers,

waiittt...the fx-60 in a laptop? and by taking off the top (aka "topless") i meant going to the modding extreme, voiding your warrenty, taking a razor to the proc and taking off the IHS..i havent had the guts to do it to mine yet..the razor goes too deep...and my pocket will not be ready to shell out more money to buy a new opty...lol

I'm currently reviewing a VERY powerful machine.
Over 4000 in 3DMark06.
-
laptop or desktop? what are the full specs on it?
i managed 6605 in 3dmark06, broken down it is
SM2.0 - 3096
HDR/SM3.0 -2959
CPU - 1534

4074 3DMarks
SM2.0: 1581
HDR/3.0: 1588
CPU: 1943
That's with a gig of DDR400, Go7800GTX 256MB, FX-60 2.6GHz. -
impressive. i would of thought 600mhz (dual core) would be more then 409 in cpu score. and if you havent already, setting it to one core decreases performance.

The FX-60 laptop is . . . well . . my Sager sucks LOL.
-
oh..i thought this was a desktop!?! your sager doesnt suck, it is just dwarfed by the performance of the other laptop
those scores are insane for a laptop

Yeah, I'm 'spoiled' now. Too bad.
I think dual-core has a great gaming future - judging from the performance increase I have already seen. Is your Opteron dual core PB? -
yes, dual 2.0ghz, 2x1mb l2 cache
pb,out. -
Holy crap. Oh well, I guess I'm going to have to sell my body again this summer to get that laptop.
