I Recently ordered a Gateway P-7811 w/ a Geforce 9800m GTS intending to do some much needed catch-up in the PC gaming world. So which game should I play first? :D

Crysis or Crysis warhead? Any reason why I should play them in order?

Well, what kind of games are you interested in? What games did you play that you enjoyed? FPS, RTS, etc.

I would say download Steam from Valve and pick games with higher metascores. Most of Steam's online store is on sale and they carry nearly any kind of game. I am a FPS guys, so CS, HL2, etc. Grid was fun for a bit if you enjoy realistic racing. One thing I would do is stay away from GTA IV...to many issues and not worth the time at the current moment. Far Cry 2 is a decent replacement for it btw.

I love FPS and RTS games.... Some of my favorite games include Warcraft III, Age of Empires 2, Call of Duty 2, Far-Cry... I played the HL2 demo and was seriously impressed.. that's a must get... My question is, though, which should I play FIRST? Thanks

Call of Duty 4 and the new one, World at War are both great if you haven't played them.

As for Crysis or Warhead first, if you're going to beat them both for sure, might as well play Crysis first, then Warhead, as it's shorter.

Far Cry 2 is a lot of fun, and if you haven't played Half Life 2, then I'd say start with those plus the episodes that follow.

Also, have got to check out Portal, a fantastic game that you might have missed. Comes in the Orange Box from Valve, which I'd highly recommend you pick up.

    Have fun!

Halflife 2 was the biggest disappoint of a game. Boring and multiplayer sucks.

I dunno I thought that game was awesome. O and play Crysis first before Warhead so you know what the story is. In Warhead is just another side of the story.

If you haven't played HL2, that should probably be the first. It's a bit dated, so download the Fake Factory mod. The mod redid most (all?) textures in the game so it looks a lot better. Either buy Orange box or the complete Valve package on Steam.

I would also recommend Crysis for FPS and Fallout 3 for RPG.

Do you mind me asking how you got this P-7811?

Get Dead Space if you like scary stuff. Fallout 3. And play the first Crysis.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm now definitely leaning towards Crysis first, just to see what my 7811 will be capable of. And it just looks fun. Then I'll go for half-life 2, maybe red alert 3.... I can't wait haha

I got it off eBay, refurbished, for $950. Which I think is a fair price for what I'm getting. I am pretty nervous that something will be wrong with it though.

crysis has a higher emphasis on stealth, warhead is more action. I would go for crysis first b/c its both longer and more varied (alien ship lvl).

If you do go for the HL2 series, you'd best pick it up now on steam since there's a major sale on right now until Jan 2. If you haven't played the original HL series, you should look into picking up the Valve Complete Pack for $75. Games included below:

    Counter-Strike
    Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
    Counter-Strike: Source
    Day of Defeat
    Day of Defeat: Source
    Deathmatch Classic
    Half-Life
    Half-Life 2
    Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
    Half-Life 2: Episode One
    Half-Life 2: Episode Two
    Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
    Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
    Half-Life: Blue Shift
    Half-Life: Opposing Force
    Half-Life: Source
    Left 4 Dead
    Peggle Extreme
    Portal
    Ricochet
    Team Fortress 2
    Team Fortress Classic

I just finished Crysis: Warhead yesterday. I never have actually played the original Crysis other than the demo. But man Crysis: Warhead never had a dull moment, action packed the whole 7 hours. It was definitely guns blazing but you could still sneak around and choose how you wanted to approach a situation to a certain extent.

i like crisis as a sandbox game, but not as an actual game. the graphics are nice, killing people is fun, but it ended up boring me. i don't like games where i feel like i have infinite ammo because theres so much ammo you can pick up. i want to feel desperate and always on the edge of surviving or dying.

i think what pissed me off was i played crisis when it first came out and had those horrible memory leaks and all those bugs. the game played great at the beginning, and turned into a slideshow at the end. the alienspaceship bored me more than ever.

it's a cool way to see what your computer can handle, but as for an actual game with a story and stuff, i'd suggest fallout 3. for multiplayer, i'd suggest left 4 dead. those two games will keep you busy for a while.

Half-Life 2 simply is one of the best single player experiences ever, sure the actual Half-Life 2: Deathmatch isn't anything to write home about, but if you get the Orange Box (which is worth it for HL2 and the Episodes alone) you get Portal (also a must play) and TF2 (Great multiplayer). If you really enjoy all the valve games then go for the complete pack thingy, but the orange box will certainly suffice!

yeah i mean, half life 2 deathmatch isn't that great. its fun on lan but the bandwidth requirements are pretty massive to get the physics working right across the internets.

but there ARE great source multiplayer games. css, tf2, l4d...
