I'm just wonder but does anyone here actually use a mousepad when gaming? Because I feel like I play worse in FPS games or any kind of multiplayer games when using a mousepad![]()
Also SHOULD i use a mousepad? Will it really have negative effects on the mouse?

I use an Xtrac Ripper, it feels better and more precise to me than the wood surface of my desktop. It's totally user preference though.
-
are there really such things as gaming mousepads? I bought one long ago but it was like all bumpy and i couldn't use the mouse on it.
-
I sometimes use one of those really thin ones. Just because it's a clean even surface. I don't like padded ones at all.
-
I use a Razer eXactMat, 99% of the time on the Speed side. It's way smoother than my wooden desk, and better for the mouse feet too.
There are plenty of options for mouse surfaces. Hard, soft, textured, smooth...you would probably like either a soft pad, or a smooth hard pad. -

I have an old compuvest mousepad they gave me for free when I bought a AGP geforce 6600 (if that tells you how old it is) that I use not only for gaming but anytime I'm using my mouse. Mouse just doesn't feel the same without. a mousepad

Had a Razer Destructor that was very good but it became worn and the minor change in friction became very annoying.
Went and got the Steelseries SX ($50) which was a huge disappointment because it basically offered no glide and my mouse slide on my table better than on the SX so I returned it.
Just got a Rocketfish aluminum gaming mousepad and it's much better than all my previous ones. It's basically a cheaper exactmat with incredible glide and better looks.
Glide is the biggest factor you should take into account. A mouse on a table doesn't glide as well as a real gaming mousepad with the textures that perform well with a mouse's teflon skates.
Once the glide is good you can really feel the precision.
Some mousepads tend to eat the mouse skates but I will order new skates as soon as friction becomes noticeable. -
Gaming mousepad is overrated, I've been using the same old no-name brand mousepad for the past 6 years (washed it twice thus far) and I still get pretty good K/D in FPS games, and I'm not even using a 'gaming mouse'.
My desktop surface is too slippery, so I kinda have to use a mousepad to slow my mouse movement down. -
-
I use the SteelSeries mousepad ontop of a cheap 5$ mousepad to make it thicker.
Gaming mouse pads provide faster slides. I know b/c I'm using a quality one on top of a cheap one. If it was vice versa, I would have a slight delay in reaquiring targets in FPS games or moving units in RTS games. -
I always use a mousepad for my mouse lol. Mouse longevity + cloth wrist comfort = wise.
Usually though, I use Logitech G1 + Qck lite for general usage (maximal comfort), and Logitech G5 + Qck heavy for gaming (large surface + precision).
-
I have been using the Razer exactmat for the last few years.
-
Ya got to have a mouse pad, just doesnt feel right without it.
-
I always use a Steel Series Mass Mat, I don't like the feet and material under my mouse wearing down, I rather keep my mouse than have it ruined.
-
I have the free sc2 mousepad.
Before that i was using a sheet of paper. -

I actually (actually) use a mousepad.

I use one. When gaming, it helps me be more precise, I'm not sliding all over the place on my desk (usually just go a milimeter too far = missed shot). It is also very comfortable on my hand rather than a hard desk.

.
Ive gone though about 4-5 pads over the years and it does make a difference not just for gaming but even for everyday use.
When i switched from a $1 IKEA mouse pad to a Razer pad, i found that i dont miss as much when clicking on icons and links. The surface just feels much better to use. -
I use Vespula by Razer.
-
I find a smoother surface sometimes gives me less control, I slide a bit too much, I like a bit of texture so its not a super easy slide, I need to give it a little force, not too much, then I find my aiming spot on all the time. I tend to run a high DPI anyways so like 3 inches is enough for almost 3 spins, Im not a big mouse movement player, small wrist movements for me

I use a random cheap one I got for free from a local radio station
-
Not gaming but when I take my machine out in the world I use it a lot.

Well i have and old Func 1030 Mousepad.. I think a plastic mousepad is better than fabric ones...

I think I'm one of the few people that play games while laying down on their bed lol
I just put the cooler on my stomach, laptop on it, mousepad on side of me with the mouse. And I'm good to go lol
Of course, to use it on the bed, its best to have a hard-pad so it doesn't lump with the bedsheets. I use this:
Got it for $5 with shipping from someone here on NBR haha. -
lol usually im not using my mouse on a desk its on my lap so I use the arm of the chair/seat. That being said if I am at the desk at home I use this old pad I got that was in the collectors edition of world of warcraft BC expansion some1 bought for me years ago. Otherwise I find the mouse is most important! Currently I am using a logitech M-R0007 so far the most precise/comfortable mouse I have found..... besides the corded one that came with my beloved Asus G2S that died after 4 years
(grafix/main board) the mouse lasted longer lol until the gf dropped the laptop with it plugged in and broke off the usb end
and also mangled the port on the G2S.

I do use a mousepad with my Toshiba, but just one of those el cheapo rubbery things. And that's only because I can't use a mouse on carpet (yes, my setup is really ghetto, lol). The Asus gets a desk and the Toshiba gets a subwoofer to sit on. -
I used to think mouse pads were gimmick, but a few days ago I got a steelseries 4HD, oh was I wrong, the mouse litterally glides over the pad. I like fps games(CSS) so it does feel better playing on hard plastic, although its rly a matter of preference, until a few days back I had been playing with no name generic pads(free ones even) and that wasnt bothering me, but I gotta say its better now. Also hard plastic is easy to clean since I sweat quite a bit on the mouse pads.
-
I use one all the time, gaming or not. It just feels like it gives much better control than on a slippery desk.
On the question of whether it damages a mouse or not, I would think that not using a mouse pad would have more negative effects simply because (depending on your desk) you may be grinding away at the bottom of the mouse. -
I had never paid for a mousepad before until black friday when I ordered a Razer Vespula, moreso for the wristrest than the pad itself, but it's probably one of the better computer accessories I've ever bought to be quite honest. The rest is actually gel filled (or was it foam) and isn't some stiff piece of junk, although I don't switch sides on the pad too often.
Only thing I'm annoyed with is that the logo wore off on the pad after 4 or so days of use. -
I tuck make sure my bedsheets are tucked in nicely, pull them taught and then sit on them. Bedsheets work fine for me (luckily I have a fairly un-lumpy bed).
If I were to get a mousepad then I'd get one of the soft neoprene ones since the hard ones don't feel very nice. -
I just live in a really tiny house, with a really tiny bedroom, with a family of five half the time, a family of three in the other half. It's VERY cramped.
Oh, and also, ALL of my computer equipment except for my desktop lives in my bedroom. You may have guessed that I am a little too young to move out of the nest. -
i also use a mouse pad, i hope to get one of the plastic types for smoother use in gaming (fps fanboi)
-
(desktop) Razer Goliathis - Love it great feel large surface, great presision
(Laptop) Razer Kabuto - Eh its not smooth enough, too small and too thin, but its portable and tracks and feels better than a desk. -
