I finally took the time to beat it, and can't believe what happened.
Even though this leaves even more suspense for Episode 3.
Anyone else shocked at it?
-
-
ets not spoil it for others but yes it was shocking, but the usefulness of "that" character was mostly gone.
-
You hated the ending emotionally, I don't think you 'hated it'. -
I seriously can't wait for episode 3, but on the other hand as 3 is the last in the series i don't want the series to end! -
Dude,it`s bound to happen.
Everyone who played HL2 EP2 knows that Dog dies.
NOT -
I still haven't played it, because the Orange Box games requires a DX8 level graphics card/chip
-
Perfect response there.
I am very happy that the gaming industry is becoming more mature in terms of storyline... I mean look at Valve, Bioshock, and even COD4. With games like HL2 and COD4, we are really starting to catch up with the movie industry.
I don't like films/games where the storyline is too shallow, and it's all about "everyone lives happily ever after" with no plot at all. It's completely unrealistic and boring... what's the point of watching a movie if you know exactly how it's going to end.
The OP should consider that if the ending of Ep2 made him so emotional, then by definition it is a good ending. This means that they have successfully pulled you into the storyline, and made you care about the characters.
I hate the mentality in which people need happy endings or else they will "hate" the movie. It's ridiculous, just look at the best rated movies of all time and see that none of them are happy go lucky cookie-cutter plotlines. -

I only hate the ending because Episode 3 won't be out for a very long time. Too much of a gameplay gap.
I enjoyed playing The Orange Box on my PS3. The ending definetely had an emotional impact on me, getting me to care about the characters.
Personally, I was especially pissed about what happened in the early part of Episode 2 *coughhunterscough* -

True true. And on the other side, these japanese rpgs are often fairly good as far as story development. If we look at FFVII, it was one of the first games that really had good character development and that made good use of it. That was around 10 years ago though, so maybe the US market has caught up quality-wise.
-
I like it cause I haven't played it yet
-
I hope that EP3 is the last and then they concentrate on doing a full Half Life 3 game
-
-
It's not a bad ending! Infact it's a good ending, considering Ep3 is yet to arrive!
Keeps up amazing suspense....
And the "secret weapon" in that sunken (?) ship in Ep3 would probably be the Portal gun!
And Portal 2 should arrive along with Ep3 IMO. But this is all speculation among whatever I've read on various forums. Last I heard, Ep3 was being intentionally delayed....
-
I heard they were essentially trashing the "episode" idea and going for a full on "Half-Life 3" instead. They really want what was going to be "episode 3" to be as epic as the original HL2, and also they probably want to make it just as long.
-
So make it then!
Half Life 3 it is...
Take the famouse series : Quake, Heroes of Might and Magic, Might and magic,diablo,starcraft...
All good games have sequels, some more than others
I love sequels,it`s the story that`s the most important to me. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
As others have said... the story, characters, acting, gameplay and production value in any HL game is #1 (IMHO). The ending to HL2 Ep2 was excellent! I would love it if HL3 was a full game and not just another expansion. That would be sick!
It is nice to see some games with more emphasis on good stories and characters like Bioshock and a few others. Those games really stand out. They are like good books. You can keep going back to them over and over. It doesn't matter that you know the end or exactly when a bad guy is going to pop out at you. The thrill of the ride is done well enough that it's like the 1st time everytime -

Long live valve!
P.S. long live blizzard too ^^ -
AND NOT AS AN MMORPG! -

I liked the ending alot. But then again, i like sad stories. I don't believe in happy endings. If you think that's sad and emotional, try dreamfall.
-
I don`t hate the ending, if I think about it. It`s like a good book.
I am actually thinking of replaying the whole Half Life 2 series on hard , just for the story.I forget fast -
-
the ending, was necessary... AND the rest of the story was UNBELIEVEABLE... they started connecting the G-man to OTHER charactes besides gordon, they connected PORTAL into it. It leaves up such an amazing storyline to come... OOH im just giddy thinking about it!
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
Definitely, when I got to the strider battle and killed the first one, then found out there were more, I was like "Holy **** how the hell am I supposed to do this for all of them?" You pretty much have to kill the hunters with your car since you run out of powerful ammo after like 2-3 hunters. Easily the hardest part of any Half Life game so far, but so much fun.
-
Stampeding hunters are no match for nitro buggy
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
Wait, so you guys didn't just use the experimental pineapple launcher to take out the hunters? What else was it for?
-
Na,the pineapple was for eating and having a blast
-
I hope they go back to making full games, I'm not much for this episodic stuff.
-
-
-
Hunters were a great addition to the series in my opinion, they're a great enemy. Annoying to battle but in a good way. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
I saw a walkthrough that told you how to do it... I can't remember what it said though. The one I could never get was kill a zombine with his own grenade. I stole some zombine grenades so I got that achievement, but even when I stole one and killed the zombine with it, I never got that achievement. I'll try to find the instructions again and post them.
-
Oh do tell. As soon as I re-finish HL1 source, I want to do all the things I did not do before in HL2.
Who else hates the ending to Half-Life: Episode 2?
