I really don't see why people are hating on WoW. I do have to admit that it has gotten a lot easier the past year and Blizz is catering to the "casuals" but overall in an mmo, it definitely has the best mechanics out of everything. I did play the beta in Aion, and I have to say that Aion pve is easier than WoW pve, and it is mostly pvp based atm. Of course I cant say anything because it is still in beta.

Well, back to the expansion... I still think that Blizz did a sort of lazy job on only reconstructing Azeroth, but I love the new races, race/class combination, lore, and new systems such as the guild leveling system and the path of the titans. This will definitely bring some players back, and I highly doubt that games like Star Wars, Aion, or FF14(which probably wont come out until wow has the 4th expansion :p). And ya... I am excited for the new WoW expansion. :)

I think i have seen this before in an mmo. It was called Star Wars Galaxies, where SOE(sony Online entertainment) decided that they needed to dumb down the game to make it easyier, so they did it after an expansion they put out. You know what happend after that? they put in a patch that resulted in losing 90% of their player base overnight litarally.

That patch was called the "new game enhancements" which made the game into a wow clone with a star wars skin. Dumbing down a game is not the way to go.

I always knew this was going to happen to this game.

WoW sucked from lvl 1, it becomes repetitive, every other quest is the same. I had no fun throughout the game i got to lvl 75 and quit because all i was ever doing was lvling. The game offers nothing to lower lvls.

Star Wars the Old Republic and Star Trek Online is going to kick WoW's ***. I cant wait.

I just watched the trailer and started to get a little excited and interested in playing, but I just can't shake the feeling that the game is designed for 12 year olds, the graphics and gameplay are just so cartoony and simple.

Hmm... always leveling does seem like a strange concept for an MMO RPG.

meh, you got excited over that? it's like... here's pretty much the same game.. but azeroth looks different and you can now play with a different model/texture (new races) and heroic versions of dungeons you played 4-5 years ago

compared to previous expansions where entire new continents, heroic systems, flying mount and new class were added, this is turning out to be the most uncreative expansion yet

The game is actually fairly complex as far as the behind the scenes stuff goes, of course Crapaclysm is going to remove most of that complexity.

Blizzard are slowly turning WoW into Second Life with orcs for soccer moms.

i can't wait for SW and ST mmo's to compete with each other - that's going to be a fun ride.

honestly, WoW only holds the title because Blizzard has the money to keep people in the game. they create subtle new content quite often while working on a polished game. if the game wasn't so polished, people wouldn't play it. but since they keep adding little content to a game with a gigantic fan base, they can pretty much count on it until many, many MMO's debut at the same time.

no one MMO can overcome WoW - it's going to take multiple debuting at the same time to overcome the fan base (bits of each 'niche' are going to follow whatever new mmo they are interested in).

I remember this very well, as I was part of the mass exodus that left SWG when the CU first went live, and then the NGE. What Blizzard is doing, while admittedly a good business approach, is ostracizing the old school players, many of whom cut their MMO teeth on World of Warcraft, by making the game more accessible and easier to play. Right or wrong, Blizzard is doing what they think is best to keep relevant in a fast-paced, ever changing game genre.

Erm, perhaps because the title of this thread is, "Who else is excited for the new WoW expansion?".

    ROFL! Best. Blizzard. Pwn. EVAH!

I am the 3rd, possibly 4th, person in this thread to be excited about Cataclysm.

Seriously, if some of you dislike WoW so much, why are you even posting in here?

Heh. I'm going to list a few key points that seem to summarise what some people are saying here, and tell y'all what I think:

WoW is horrible because Blizzard is dumbing it down, making it all "casual-friendly" and crap. Come on! We're hardcore! We want people to need to be dedicated to WoW to succeed!

Sorry, but... if you think WoW is "hardcore"... some of my friends were EverCrack players, and I watched them spend hours (!) downing one boss.

XXX is going to be a WoW killer.

Hey, I'm as excited about the Star Wars and Star Trek MMOs as anyone. In fact, I am almost certain to be playing -both- of these, if only for a month. Nonetheless, I'd take with a pinch of salt any statement which implies that any MMO is going to take WoW to its knees.

Reason being? Take a look at all the games that have been pegged as "WoW killers", or "the next WoW". Many P2P games have attempted to provide competition to WoW, but nothing has even come close. Everquest 2, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London, WAR, AoC... need I go on?

I've cancelled my WoW account, because I was just sick of WoW.

Fair enough. But hey, guess what? Every day, some kid finally develops the motor skills to handle a keyboard, and gets himself a WoW account. It's like American Idol. You'd figure they'd run out of people, but nooooooo.

    It's immortal. Just like Cher.

Because the title asks "Who else is excited for the new WoW expansion?" so there will people who says "yes I'm excited because of so and so" and there will also people who says "no, I'm not excited because of so and so", just that in this case, you see more posts about people who aren't excited more than people who are

Yeah that's probably true, but it depends on how you define a dead mmo. Do you mean dead dead like Tabula Rasa or dead as in so much of the population has left that they merge 20-30+ servers into a handful?

And I do miss evercrack from time to time, I get nostalgic about the good times. Too bad WoW was the EQ killer

Been there, done that. Sleeper, NToV, the Planes (old and new)... EverQuest brought a new meaning to "hardcore" when you have a corpse run into the lair of say, Dain Frostweaver... naked, no weapons, no gear, no "ghost form". Just you and one pissed off, high aggro boss.

Honestly if Blizzard wasn't simplifiying the stat system by removing spell power, attack power, etc. I'd be a bit more excited for it. If that doesn't prove they're dumbing the game down even more than I don't know what does...

The game is still fun. If the changes are bad guess what, the xpac isnt out which means they can still change it. If we can't say bad things about Aion and other games in beta or alpha why can we say about WoW xpac that hasn't really been done yet, there are tons of new features you guys left out.

The only WoW killer there will ever be is WoW2. And for you Scifi guys out there thinking kotor or any other space mmo is going to kill wow, just remember what company has a long standing line of quality games and which do not. Anyone remember the last star wars mmo? thx

That would be true if SWTOR was being developed by the same company that developed Star Wars Galaxies. Thankfully, this isn't the case.

Well, let's see... Star Wars Galaxies was developed first by Sigil, which was then acquired by SOE. The game soon fell on hard times when SOE implemented the CU and NGE. And we all know what idiots SOE can be when it comes to producing and running MMO's.

On the other hand, the new Star Wars MMO is being developed by Bioware, which to my recollection, has never produced a bad game in their existence. In all honesty, if you really want to compare developers, I would say that Bioware has an equal or slightly better track record of producing quality games than Blizzard.

In any event, Star Wars Galaxies has nothing to do with the new SWTOR MMO coming out. These MMO's were/are being developed by two entirely different companies. The only common thread between them is the Star Wars theme and the licensing from LucasArts.

I'd define an MMO as being "dead" when it reaches that arbitrary point when it's just not really fun anymore because nobody's around for you to do anything with.

Y'know, like how AoC and WAR have numbers that just keep going down... and down... and downnnnn...

Exactly! Yet, you find soooo many WoW players talking about how WoW is being dumbed down for "casuals". Pfffft. I'd much rather be able to view most of the game content without having to spend 3 days in a row awake, thank you very much.

If they decide to change it at all, let's hope they listen

Lock's new soul shard system & reforging's probably the only new feature that I would have been excited for imo, I find archaelogy and guild exp to be lacking though

    WoW2?

And yes I remember SWG, it did fine until CU and NGE, which pretty much ended up in MMO suicide. And that's not unlike the changes that WoW is proposing.
