From what I understand, nvidia doesn't actually make their GPUs. Is it the same for the mobile versions?
And if it is, what are some of the companies that make them?

im not sure...can you provide a link to who makes Nvidia GPUs?

Asus or Asustek makes some, PNY does to.

As for laptops, my guess is that Nvidia itself manufactures the GPU, and laptop ODMs themselves install it on the motherboard or on an MXM card. -
im pretty sure Nvidia manufacture their on GPU's
and the companies that are mentioned above make the reference boards and not the actual GPU -
They make their own GPU's but not their cards. ATI also have a line of own cards 'made by ATI', while the cards where they only supply the GPU are 'powered by ATI'.

They dont actually, the people who MANUFACTURE them are fabs like TSMC and IBM (which cost billions of dollars each) Only companies like Intel and AMD can afford their own. Nvidia and ATI design the chips while companies like ASUS and Gainward either design and make the board or rebrand it from companies like Sapphire. Samsung or hynix make the memory. ATI and Nvidia also design reference boards which I guess they sell the design of to a company just wanting to copy it.
ATI no longer "make" their own cards (these were sold by ATI but sapphire made most of them). -
Who makes the nvidia go GPUs?
