Did someone say pc gaming is dead, replaced by powerful consoles, steam boxes, portable handheld/tablet units?

Ever since I bought the Toshiba P100 laptop with a 7900GS NVidia Geforce2Go GPU, the gaming laptop market I believe was only occupied by Dell XPS, Toshiba and perhaps Alienware.

A few years on, Toshiba came out with the Qosmio Xsomething line, then came Asus ROG line. Then came Clevo, OEM for Sager, XMG, Xotic, Origin PC EONs and a host of other makers such as System 76, Venom, etc.

Now I am in the market to upgrade again and I find the market crowded with players like MSI, CyberpowerPC, HP Omen, even Acer entered with the Predator series; and Gigabyte with their Pxx line. Not to mention other players like Razer and Aorus vying for market share.

Gotta thank nvidia for pushing the GPU for mobile and of course us gaming laptop users for keeping the fragging going :)

Hmm.. who said PC gaming is dead?

It's actually the opposite now, more companies are starting to see that PC is the only platform that will survive. Consoles are on a downward hill. PC had some slowdowns in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but now almost every game gets a PC release. Once consoles finally die, we can experience the true power of PC (like we did back when crysis 1 came out)

Seriously? Did you just come out of cryo stasis?

No one has said PC gaming is dying for nearly 10 years.

Do you realize that almost every company you named there is just rebranding Clevos?

Also Clevo had 7000 series laptops, they've been around longer than you realize.

Um, from where do you get this madness? Consoles are selling better than they ever have. PS4 is on pace to surpass the sales marks set by the PS1 and PS2. Xbox is doing well too, and Nontendo can't keep the Switch on the shelves.

Predictions that "X gaming technology is dying" continue to be premature. Years ago, people were sure PC gaming was going to lose to consoles and die out. Didn't happen. More recently, people thought that the PS4/Xbox One/Wii U consoles would lose to smartphones be the last console generation. Didn't happen. Sales of gaming PCs and consoles both remain strong, and every indication is that they will continue to for the reasonably foreseeable future.

Eventually, you might see "mergers" between consoles, PCs, and/or smartphones for gaming purposes (as opposed to any one of them simply dying out). Microsoft may try it, eventually. But we're still a long ways off from that.

Only your staunchest console fanboys will say PC gaming is dead. The kind who think human eye can only see 30fps and paying for online is an awesome service.
Let them think PC is dead...don't want developers lowering the bar even more should they get wind they've ascended.

Quality gaming laptops are dead though. Little choice, bad build quality and longevity. Meh.

True that. Upgrade culture lives on in desktop land but is slowly getting shut down in the Laptop world. Quality and longevity has suffered immensely with this disposable thin and light craze.

Indeed, it wasn't that long ago that the P Series Clevo cases were all setup with MXM ports for that reason.

God, where did that come from ? :D
Consoles are rising, never sold better, and gaming revenues for sony and MS just skyrocket since last 5 years.
Just take a look at ubi revenues. Only 11% come from PC, 47% PS4, 27% X1.
As much as i love and play pc, it's thanks to consoles we have so many games to play. So i really hope consoles never die.

That's not really indicative of PC game sales. That's just Ubisoft who don't exactly offer much in the grand scheme of things for PC users. By the way, PC on previous quarters was sitting in the mid 20%s at #2 above X1 which you might find interesting.
If you look at PC gaming hardware revenue it actual dwarfs console revenue by multiple factors.
Also be careful if you decide to use VG Chart sales since they only count physical sales. Even if we were able to count Steam sales, there's a myriad of other game vendors that rarely get counted i.e. GOG, Blizzard etc.
Consoles are fine and I don't think they're going anywhere but I can't say I've seen anything impressive this gen. Most of these AAA games spend more on marketing than actual development now and have to play it safe with tried and true ideas to meet targets. Consequently they lack any innovation.
