I only play dota on wc3, dota(and other custom map) was those kind of things that prolonged the popularity of wc3 life (if you compared no dota and with dota). I might be wrong thou....

look at starcraft? most of those games are moneymaps.. moneymaps are custom maps. custom games= the win.

I still play Starcraft: BroodWar and Blizzard just recently released a patch that allows you to play the game without the game CD! What a dedication Blizzard has for the Starcraft community. I have no doubts about Starcraft 2. Every single release from Blizzard has been a great success and let's all remind ourselves, SC2 is still in its alpha stage. I think it's way too soon for anything to be finalized. Have you guys seen SC1 in its alpha/beta stages?

    Pre-Alpha Stage:

Alpha Stage: (Starcraft 2 is here right now from what I remember reading)

    Beta:

You guys get the point... It's too early to judge right now. When SC2 was announced, starcraft became one of the top ten selling games for several weeks. Anyways, do check out more screen shots from the link provide below!

You mean: "Who thinks Starcraft 2 is going to be dope?"??

    :D

Honestly, I like how its going so far. Usually when you get to like anything(whether its a person, or a thing, like a game), you get to appreciate it as time goes on. If they keep what they have been keeping up, I doubt it'll be disappointing.

    What? Cool!

Now is there a way to install it on a thumb drive so I can play it without having to install it on a PC (i.e. registry entries)? Or is there a workaround for that? It'd be great to be able to pop it in my work PC since I'm not allowed to install anything, and play some during lunch. :)

Meh, I'm not too hyped up about it. I'm sure it'll be polished and well executed, like every Blizzard game. But I also think it'll essentially be a RTS as of 1998.

It seems like they're completely ignoring all the (awesome) improvements that have been made in the genre since then. In Blizzard's world, StarCraft is still the perfect example of RTS gameplay.

Which is silly. They really should take a good look at the competition (in particular Relic), because there's a lot to learn if they want to impress people who weren't already SC fanatics.

    Jalf - I agree.

I think World in Conflict is what they should use as a benchmark for an exciting gameplay experience.

They may be a victim of their own success. It would be a huge mistake to not scrutinize all the successful RTS games since Starcraft and implement or borrow features that made those games fun and challenging. At first I thought it'd be cool just to have a modified SC with improved graphics. But after playing CoH, WiC, C&C3, there's tons of improvements that would make the game spectacular.

Im really looking forward to the SC2 release. I am sure it will rock!
One concern though, will a 8600m GT run in properly? That's one big concern for me right now, since I'm looking to buy a new notebook in the coming month or two.

8600m GT should have absolutely no issue running it. 8600m GT can run every game out there today. Blizzard games usually cater to the lowest commond denominator as far as PC hardware, so I wouldn't worry. I'm sure the Intel X3100 will run it just fine.

You can't really expect a game to be realistic and fun at the same time... maybe you can do that for some games, but for games like SC, you'll have to sacrifice some reality for more fun. If everything was real, there would be no zergs or protoss...
I'm not a big RTS fan anymore (other than Total Wars), but I think I'll pre order SC2 as soon as it's available.

oh yeah, if you didn't know, Starcraft is big in Korea and is THE MOST competitive game in the WORLD to this date

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEh0wj9pB6M (nothing special, random game from a few days ago)

Blizzard wants Starcraft II to be just as competitive, so don't expect them to make everything newb-friendly. I think they are more focused on gameplay than graphics (although they have responded to some complaints about the current state of it's graphics ie. it's too cartoony)

Agreed...every decent player by now should understand the key fact of Gameplay > Graphics.

But everytime I visit the starcraft2 website... I love their movies but hmmm.... when I click their unit page I feel like going out for a walk.

I REALLY REALLY do hope gameplay will be awesome....

As others have pointed out, this game is so early in development that complaining about anything is kind of fruitless. I doubt we'll see SC2 go retail until early 2009 or later.

Also agree with the "gameplay > graphics" people. When I want pretty games I play FPS/MMO or something else, not RTS.

Since about Diablo 2 onward everyone complains about the graphics in Blizzard games (including WarCraft 3 and WoW); how they're outdated, cartoony, check out [insert game here] and how good it looks...but they still end up bestsellers with millions of players. So I have faith in Blizzard :p

I'm sure Jalf is actually referring more to Dawn of War, but I think we all get the point.

I think I already mentioned this, but I see SC2 to SC1 as TF2 to TF:C. The game will be different, but the underlying ideal will be preserved. Some people will undoubtably prefer the original, but if the can achieve what Valve has with TF2, they'll be just fine.

That said, I REALLY enjoyed playing Dawn of War. I've always been surprised at how similar the art style is to Warcraft! Tecnically, it is more advanced with physics + graphics + gameplay possibilities, but still.

    Anyway, Soulstorm!

thats cause the game was announced in Korea one of the biggest market for Blizzard games... and also because some of the top players in "professional gaming" are Korean.

OK everyone...remember starcraft 1? Bajillions of people still play that game till today. AND, i'd just love to see you sell that bit to the south koreans. they'll probably arrest and give you life in prison for saying that. ALSO, blizzard is known for adding a bit "comical" touch to the graphics, which is somewhat what makes it so addicting and fun to play. Sure, CnC is pretty neat, so is WiC. But thats not gonna make blizzard start over again, just for eyecandy.

they have like all-female fanclubs for certain players

btw the guy that uploaded the video uploads like all the recent games, he's awesome ^_^

and there's no release date for SC2 yet

how so? you get paid to play games. They have sponsorship they don't need to pay for anything computer related. They have fame and fortune... what more do you need to ask for? Seriously, would you rather go work in a office or play games?

Its a awesome life if you can achieve it.

What's sad is if you play games 12 hours a day and have nothing to show for it. That's sad. Getting paid to play is not.

Honestly, I'm not too hyped about it... I still play SC since my school has tournaments often and the community is great. I'll pre-order SC2 and play through the missions for sure since the story is awesome, but not sure if I'll play it online much. I hope my dv6000t with go7400 can run the game @ the lowest settings. ;(

Everyone stop worrying whether your machine will be able to play Starcraft 2. Since when has Blizzard EVER released any game that required much GPU horsepower? Or CPU for that matter? I can almost guarantee it will run perfectly fine on an Intel X3100, hell probably even Intel 950 GPU and require no less than an 800MHz CPU. If C&C 3 can run on an ATI 1100 chipset, then I'm sure Starcraft 2 will do just fine.

    Probably not DirectX 10 mode.

Many of the newer games have DirectX 10 modes:

    - Flight Simulator X (with patch)
    - Halo 2
    - Shadowrun
    - Bioshock
    - Crysis
    - Assassin's Creed (not out yet)

You are right about that. Outside Starcraft, they don't have much of anything. We can't generalize, of course, but I think this is mostly the case. But Starcraft will not just not "be cool." It's been "cool" for ten years now, you think it will just stop at one point?

There was an article on some of the WoW and other type of online gaming "gold farms". There were a handful that were popular, but the rest were just there almost as slave labor to try out different things, and with the case of online MMORPG's, to get as much stuff and characters as they could and sell them on eBay or anywhere else it will fetch a buck.

Even Fatal1ty says its a lot of work to be really good day in and day out. As much as I think it'd be fun to play games for a living, I'd rather do it for fun.
