I see him all the time, like in route canal, he is on station 9, walks in when you get close, then when you get up there, station 9 people are turned to zombies.
Is it just a coincidence that he's always there when something bad happens?
Breen says his contract was up to the highest bidder, how would he know that unless...
And when Gordon gets put in sleep at the end, the gman knew Alyx would die, and so would the people....
What I think is that Gordon Freeman is being tested. The combine is seeing how a full powered human would last against strong opponents.
Then when humanity is destroyed, they make clones of Gordon, and keep them in jars.

I think the G-man is actually a kind of god somehow. Nobody other than Gordon or the vortigaunts at the beginning of Ep1 have even seen the gman. Plus, he seems to have the power to control time and space, as seen at the end of HL2/beginning of Ep1. So if u ask me, some omnipotent something rather, maybe even an alien. Time shall tell, and hopefully Ep2...

Zombies ftw!
-
i thought the gman was the head of some rebel faction against the combine who has some seriously advanced tech, (teleporters that the combine couldn't even make) when he puts freeman into stasis at the end of hl1 and hl2 its a slow time warp (like when you and alyx teleport from nova prospeckt) and that when breen refers to his contract being open to the highest bidder i believe breen wanted to hire freeman and have him lead the resistance as a combine mole

Just like the twist in Star Wars...
Maybe, GMan is the father of Gordon Freeman? -
"I am ur Father, Gordon..." in Darth Vader tone...
-
lol, thats some funny stuff
-
But if the G-Man is omnipotent, then how were the Vortigaunts able to restrain and teleport him in the beginning of Half Life 2: Episode 1?
Or is that just part of his master plan?
-
To tell you the truth i bet it's an older version of gordon in the future. Gordon Free man
-
-
-
yeah, right! where is the "old Freeman's" glasses ?
-
the makers have said gman isn't a old version of gordonplus why would gordon do that to himself?
-
Well it would be hilarious.. but then again if you think about it it can't be the future gordon, because if g-man went back in time to change the way he did things by following gordon around and basically being in control of him, he would be changing history so his present self would change too.
So for G-man to get to his present state, he must have followed a similar path to what Gordon was after the Black Mesa incident, but before City 17. G-man inserting Gordon into City 17 could be the first step in changing history from occurring the way it did.
That, or G-man would find it funny to see an alien race come and invade the entire world and stuff so he made Gordon mess up the experiment XD -
Well, maybe he got infected by the Aliens and to keep the current future (infected Gordon) , he would need to make young gordon to mess up most of the stuff... like the way he did before....
-
G-Man ftw. He is the game creator thats why
-
So no, he's definitely plainly visible to everyone. (And moreover, he's obviously helping the rebels in HL2. I mean, he meets with them, and he lets you work for them)
You're obviously not working for the Combine. So who did win the "auction"? Who was the highest bidder? The resource-starved and desperate human rebels? I somehow doubt they could out-bid the Combine. Hell, even if the Combine didn't bid on you, I doubt the rebels could offer *anything* to interest someone like G-Man. (And since Breen knows you were available to the highest bidder, the Combine obviously considered buying you)
Your goals seem to be aligned with the rebels though, so someone is hiring you to help them.
And who are leasing you out at all?
G-Man was on Earth before the Combine. He certainly had a hand in the accident in the first game that made the invasion possible, but if he was Combine, how would he have gotten here to open the portal?
I think it's more likely that he represents a third faction. Maybe some kind of space/time "mercenary agency", someone else who isn't directly involved in the Combine vs Earth struggle.
So in the first game, G-Man paves the way for the invasion. In the second game, he helps destroy the Combine. What does that mean? Pretty destructive behavior if you ask me.
So many questions...
And no, G-Man is not Gordon from the future. (Valve have said that the name G-Man was coincidental, simply because he looked like some kind of government person with his jacket and suitcase)
Who thinks the gman is the secret leader of the combine? *spoilers*
