    Why Am I Getting Poor Performance in BF2142 (System Logs Included!)

    My system specifications:

    Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83ghz 2mb L2 Cache
    2gb DDR2 Dual Channel 667mhz
    ATI Mobility X1600 256mb/512HM (Mobility Catalyst 6.8's) (256mb dedicated)
    Windows XP Home Edition SP2

    All these logs are at one second intervals for a period of time while playing BF2142. As you can see I still have around 50mb of free video memory. Just glance at them because its a lot of logs for every 1s interval.

    what resolution and settings are you playing at?

    is it only this game or others too?

    tried to use 3dmark for a score?

    can you disable the hypermemory?

    How much of your regular memory do you have left? Most games are going to load the video memory up with as much as they can to improve performance, so that doesn't surprise me.

    Also, how much of the CPU is being used up? Are any processes hoarding the CPU time?

    Like I mentioned before in your other post:

    Try uninstalling ATI Tray Tools. It might be causing this problem. A few days ago I installed ATI Try Tools and a few programs like Office 2007, Microsoft Live Messenger, and Windows Sidebar stopped functioning for some reason. It seems some Windows applications stopped responding (for me at least) after I installed Try Tools. Uninstall it and delete all its folders, along with the logs. If you find that ATI Tray Tools is the cause, then use Powerstrip for overclocking instead.

    The reason I got ATI Tray tools was because I was having the same performance problems with the Catalyst Control Center albeit a bit worse, with a few tweaks in ATT I got a minor FPS increase.

    You can try a safe overclock for you laptop at 475/400 MHz using Powerstrip, cause your card is quite underclocked.

    ran 3dmark05 again with oc at 470/400 and got 3776. I was getting 3900+ with older drivers and an OC. But I do not know what they were.

    I don't know what’s wrong, but maybe you can vacuum or airspray your laptop ports. If your notebook warranty is expired then you can also unscrew under your notebook and clean it a little. This will help your graphics card and CPU stay cool and thus perform better.

    Its real odd that your getting such low FPS in Battlefield 2142 with your settings at low-medium. Your laptops system is very similar to mine and you even got a cooler CPU. Under Windows XP, I could run both Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 with all high settings and get at around 30-45 FPS.

    Another option (a long one) would be to completely formant you laptop, followed by a fresh install of Windows.

    ROFL same with me when I reformatted about 2 weeks ago, I got an increase in about 10 FPS on average across all my games.
