I have Acer Aspire 5112WLMi which has Ati Radeon Mobility x1600 Hypermemory 128MB up to 512MB
Why Ati Radeon Mobility x1600 Hypermemory has only 64-bit memory bus?
    Why it is not 128-bit?
Are all x1600 Hypermemory cards 64-bit?

that must be why the results for 3dmark05 was quite low for that acer model

What sort of 3DMark scores do you get? The X1600 is normally a 128-bit part.

    that's very low for a ATI X1600, which should be hitting 3800 - 4200 in 3dmark05

The 128MB X1600's typically hit around 2800 stock. 2500 doesn't seem unreasonable, although it isn't as high as it could be. Either way, if the card plays the games you want well, then who cares?

can be 64-bit a special case for amd processor because it has memory contoller on processor instead of motherboard chipset?
you know ddr2 rams have 64-bit memory bus

My 128mb x1600 did ~2790 stock and now with 6.7 catalyst it does ~2910 (both figures give or take a few marks). That is with specs in sig and no OC'ing or real tweaking with ati tray tool.

Exactly why I dont benchmark too much. I do an initial score check and everytime I do a driver update. But otherwise my 3dmark05 demo gets a rare use lable in add/remove. Just because my score is higher then yours doesnt mean Ill play significantly better then you at some games. Although I believe my x1600 is 128bit.

amount of ram bus doesn't effect playable games, but 64-bit ram can cause a bit sloweness comparing to 128-bit

suraj, can you check your 5112 using everest ultimate wheter your one is 64-bit or not.? and if it possible can you post here its screenshot?

Nope, completely unrelated. It's simply because a 64-bit bus makes the card cheaper. No big conspiracy theories there, and the CPU isn't involved at all.

So I guess you do have a 64-bit memory bus, interesting. Probably done for cost purposes - Acer is known to do that. They had a system a while back with an ATI X700, and it too had a 64-bit memory bus.

ATI Tray Tools never identifies the memory type right - I doubt you have GDDR3 in there.

I own a aspire 1692 with a x700 with 64 mb and I don't know now if it has 64 or 128 bit, but acer is not good for gaming. I think that they try to cut prices in more places and graphics is one of them.
